When are you going back for your next check with your surgeon?
A UTI check would be a good idea as well.
Did your surgeon say how long they expected it to be before you can void without the catheter? Do you feel there has been any improvement at all with voiding?
Dont leave this too long or let them fob you off about you not being able to void without a catheter. I hope things improve very soon for you
Oops auto correct I meant UKlady 1001.
Hi unladylike 1001,
Thanks for the information and kind words. I got the foley cath out yesterday and now am doing self catheterization. I had a horrible night last night as I always feel like I have to pee, but don't. The doc says I can pee normally between when I use a catheter and when I do very little comes out. I am miserable. Almost feel like it would have been better to keep the foley in. I had the choice, but was told my bladder would get back to normal sooner with using a self catheter. Waiting on my doc to call back to see if I should go to to test for a uti.
I have heard other ladies who have had the same experience. With so much swelling after surgery you will not know for sure if you inability to void right now is due to the swelling or for another reason. Keep on top of this though as there could be a chance you will need to look at how tight your sling is etc., When you are through the first part of your healing then as I am sure you already know, the catheter should be out, and if you are still unable to void without a catheter then, I would ask more questions and get a second opinion as well from a Urogynecologist.
I am sorry you are having this problem and from personal experience of catheters etc, I can appreciate how difficult this is for you right now. Keep on top of any possible UTI/pain issues eg get a urine test if you feel you need one, and hopefully in 4 days you will be able to urinate without your catheter.
Let us know how you get on
