My cat doubled in size in just a few days?

After the loss of our outdoor cat, Olly, who would leave every night and return every morning, our indoor cat, Titan, doubled in size within the span of about a week. They were both very close and we didnt notice any behavioral changes in Titan. Titan is about 2 years old so you would think he was just about done growing and we used an automatic feeder and never had a problem with the cats being overweight or eating too much. This seems very odd to us. We dont know the measurements before he increase in size but he is not overweight, he just seems to have significantly grown within such a short amount of time. We would just like to know if this is a health problem or not. Thanks!

Hello.

Firstly, I'm very sorry about the passing onward of Olly.  It must be very hard for all of Olly's loved ones including Titan.

I've never paid much attention to what size (not weight) that my cats are supposed to be.  As long as all else seems normal, nothing swollen, activity, appetite, water consumption, bathroom habits, etc. all should be well.

Was Olly bigger than Titan?  My sister has fairly small cats but one of mine is a huge boy cat.  I've never seen a bigger cat than him.  If I haven't seen my sister's for awhile they look like miniatures when I do.

Still, I'm no veterinarian and you should have him checked over.  No harm no foul.  Err on Titan's side.

Blessings,
  Melinda

I don’t have an answer for you. In fact, I am wondering the same thing. My 20 year old cat Benson just recently went to heaven and my other 1 1/2 year old cat Skylar literally doubled in size within a week or two of Benson’s passing. Her diet hasn’t changed and her bowel movements are normal. It’s like she poofed up and grew up overnight!  I know some animals don’t fully mature until they’re close to two years old, but this was just too quick. I almost didn’t recognize Skylar. Her and Benson looked like twins, they are both Tuxedo cats from different eras. I actually thought I was looking at Benson, my cat that went to heaven. I’m really curious as to why this happened. Skylar is healthy as a horse and she seems really happy and content. I know she misses Benson but she has taken on a few new characteristics that she never did before, She meows early in the morning and she never even meowed before. She is extra affectionate and sleeps in a different place now. Its all so peculiar with her doubling in size. I hope somebody has an answer. I’m thinking it might be energy related. Maybe she took on Benson’s spiritual energy. I don’t know, that sounds weird but I am quite spiritual. I literally have no explanation.
