How about Asthma?

I'm glad I found the site too. I have all the same symptoms that a lot of the others do. Neck pain, tingling down the arms and neck, bloating, gas, irregular heart beats, GERD on and on. What I haven't heard mentioned is asthma and allergies and excessive mucus production. I have pretty bad asthma and it's been on the rise as a whole in children and the general public. The plastic bottle theory is interesting. Wonder what effects it may have on the nervous system. I also wonder if anyone out there had any neck injuries or falls? Only one person mentioned that he fell while he was skating. The vagus nerve runs down the side of the neck and where it goes from there I don't know. I know it's called "vagus" because that's latin for "wandering" because the vagus nerve wanders all over the body through the digestive system and on down to the colon from what I've read. It is the 10th cranial nerve and it runs in a pair from the brain. It "controls" so many things in the body it's crazy. There are theory's that hiatial hernias and acid reflux have a lot to do with aggravating the vagus or the vagus being out of whack causes acid reflux. I was in two car accidents, the last on in 2002, I've never been the same since. I had fainting spells and had to stop driving for awhile. Finally a doctor told me that they were called vasovagal syncope which has to do with a problem with the vagus nerve. Two months after I stopped the fainting spells I was diagnosed with asthma. I also had a disorder called RSD reflex sympathetic dystrophy which has to do with the sympathetic nervous system located in the spine. I was told that this is the fight or flight system in the body. Recently I've had anxiety attacks. depression, etc. Just yesterday I read that they are now treating some vagus nerve problems with antidepressants because somehow this helps. Not sure why. I did go to accupuncture for awhile. It did seem to help. Years ago I modified my diet and felt much better, but the diet is really difficult. I was told not to eat any wheat, dairy, or sugar of any kind. I am going to try to modify my diet and go back to accupuncture. Wish me luck as I wish all of you better health as well.

Typing error in my last post.  Meant to say re: erythromycin  "this contains sulphites".

To vickid63 - I have similar symptoms to you, after being given many drugs in hospital. I was fine before that!!  Anyway I have bronchial asthma, am alergic to the same things you are - but on one of these fab.sites I saw a comment by someone that the racing heart is probably caused my an alergic reaction to sulfites.  As I cannot eat food with this in either, I have looked into this further. Wheat and almost everything we buy contains sulfites in some form.  I have a very bad reaction to erythromycin, and I checked out this as well.  This contains erthomycin !!   So we may be getting somewhere.!!  Could it be "not the foods"  but the sulfites in them that we are allergic to.  Perhaps that's why it's so hard to find a solution.  If the person is out there who posted this sulfites issue, please e-mail me.   Sheila
