Forum Protocal Question

Hi, since we are new here, we wanted to know some manners for the forum.

Say, someone makes a post to someone specifically, does that mean it's a private post and we shouldn't respond in that post? I am a member of some other groups (on eBay) but they don't have a place where you direct a post to someone. I don't want to be rude:)

Do you use smileys like :), ;),etc.

abbreviations: LOL, rofl, etc.

Anything we need to know?
Thanks, I am usually pretty talkative so I don't want to become annoying:)
