Compound life not so great.

by allaboutmary, May 22, 2009 03:12AM
As most of you know...due to the economy my family (2 sisters, mother & nephew) have all moved in together.   Don't get me wrong .....I'm very grateful that I have family at a time like this, but the dysfunction of one sister is really bringing me down.  She is so out of touch with reality it's making me sick.  She abuses her Sub (nibbles little pieces all day long), which causes her to buzz around like a lunatic. We all had agreed to pool our money to make ends meet. We are flat broke, yet this sister goes and gambles at a casino every single day. She tries to tell us that she doesn't spend much and that she wins all the time. Were not stupid.  We've had to hide the money from her so now she uses her unemployment check.  She is the one that put up most of the money to buy the house so it's not easy to confront her about the money.
I've only been here a few weeks and I'm miserable.
Sorry just had to vent.

i'm so sorry mary :(

i personally would not have any problem confronting your other sister...regardless of the fact that she invested most of the money.   the money she put down on the house has absolutely nothing to do with the month to month running of the house and the agreement that was made between those involved.

although it seemed like a good idea...the dynamics of basically four different families living as one is hard to do at best.  i have to ask...was any of this discussed "before" you moved?  i mean...what is the plan IF someone does not want to participate in this situation any longer?

by nick30, May 22, 2009 05:49AM
sorry, that all sounds pretty depressing.
I agree that the day to day running of things is a different proposition, and if you let her keep using that as an excuse well then you know she'd never put in another cent.
are you getting out of the house as much as you can?
maybe that might help. just doss there kinda.
hope things improve for ya

Nick

Thanks guys.  I knew this wasn't going to be easy but it really was the only workable option for us.  I guess I'm still in an adjustment phase. Magi and I are going to have to sit her down and try to get through to her.

Nick ....your right, I'm going to start getting out of the house more.
Thanks again.

Lizzy....oops forgot to answer your question. No, we really never did discuss what would happen if someone wanted to leave. I guess it would be fine. There is no mortgage on the house ....so I guess the ones left would just have to pay a little more towards utilities etc.   I would probably feel like I was deserting them though (if it was me).

Maybe it's time for me to go back on anti-depressants.......sigh.

I have been down that road before with more than one family living in 1 house, I love my family, but I lived with them growing up, and dont think I want to live with them now, You can start out loving and end up lovingly chocking the **** out of em. LIke I said we tried the pooling thing once it never worked for us. I hope you can find a peaceful solution do your living arangement. HIDE THE GUNS LOL

by allaboutmary, May 23, 2009 03:11AM
LOL .........HIDE THE GUNS........lol ...........This is one reason I've never kept guns in my house.    My X and a few others would be on my list of victims. lol

Tell Magi she better knock it off , or I will come over there and "gut her like a fish" lol.  I'm sorry....I couldn't resist.  I know this is serious, I know exactly about living with family and it's ROUGH and I could never do it for long.  I was planning on living with Mom for a while before Mexico.......because of the swine flu.......well, needless to say...I put that one out real quick.  Pretty bad when you have to weigh which is worse....Mom or swine flu.......I chose the risk of swine flu....lol, and am leaving about the first of the month.

ya, know, sweetie......If its her money and the bills are being met, as hard as it is.....what can you do?.......I do understand what you are feeling and hoping she would contribute more.  Be patient.  Remember Obama is gonna fix the world shortly...:-))

Lets all get together and throw a blanket party for her, eh?

I really am sorry, and I hope it gets better

Luv,
Nauty.........

Hey, It's not me!!!!!!  LOL, It's middle sister and she's got some serious problems, gambling is just one of them.  Luckily,  I can just hide in my cottage some of the time, from all the insanity. But poor Mary can't even go on the patio in the morning to have coffee and a smoke because we also have a freaking frog problem. She waits til I get up and comes to my cottage (soon to be re-named, the slaves quarters).
My middle sister has always had some issues, but I think all of us being on Suboxone has altered our personalities (like pain pills do). I have high hopes that when we get off the Sub, we will be less hot tempered etc, and things can settle down. I'm the eternal optimist.     The other option is to Baker Act the middle sister. LOL

Now how do frogs keep Mary from enjoying the morning coffee and smoke?  What kind of frogs are they?  I have lots of friends that are in various parts of the animal business. I even hunt the everglades and the cane plantations south of Miami ...... we look for those frogs and things. Cuban Tree Frogs were about the latest import..... but none of those things will bother you if you dont bother them......  I am confused.  Does anyone in the family resemble an insect? - - -   eagle

Those giant Bufo Marinis are actually toads......and they arent poisonous.....although my one son got psychedelic one night from trying to carry 20 or 30 of them around.  Just wear gloves..........................

by allaboutmary, May 23, 2009 10:55AM
Eagle.......lol.....There are a few different types of frogs.  Some have those suction cup feet.  They get on the sliding glass doors and when you open it to go out, they jump on you.  I can't help but freak out, even though I know they won't hurt me. It's amazing how many come out at night. They are everywhere.
I guess they are having a problem with those Cuban Frogs and the County will come out and check them out for us. I didn't notice if any of the frogs had accents though....nee..deeep...neeee deeep. lol

by flmagi, May 23, 2009 05:23PM
Eagle,  They're attack frogs and they're now forming gangs.  They may be cuban frogs....they're very loud and they also pee all over the place. Reminds me of my x-hubby, he was cuban.  Coffee dunked frog.....not desirable, especially first thing in the morning.

by dominosarah, May 24, 2009 02:15AM

by flmagi, May 24, 2009 05:55PM
Perhaps me and my sisters should be kissing all those frogs, maybe....PooF!, we'd end up with a pool and patio full of  hunky pool boys!

by theeagle, May 24, 2009 06:02PM
Those pool boys are just too high maintenance.......and they dont even turn into Princes....

by dominosarah, May 24, 2009 11:56PM
