Spanish Community

I have to ask; does anybody here participate on the Spanish forums? I was checking out the Spanish addiction community (in the spirit of open borders) and I get the feeling that the hispanic have unlocked the mysteries to treating drug addiction!!! They're holding out on us!!!


Heh heh... seriously, it's frustrating. I can read what's going on (four years of latin, VERY similar) but can't answer back. Ahhh, the curse of Babel!!!

...and german is NOT a romance language. I can only read it spottily.

I'm wondering right now why Vicuser and Jaqui have agreed to go to war over the spanish language. Well... they are speaking german so I suppose it's a natural inclination.

We must watch those two carefully...Zey haf wayz of making us talk...

No, German is NOT a romance language that's for sure, but my kids take it in school, and we are of German decent (not to mention a ton of other things), which is why I said what I said..... Basically, that there are lots of ethnic backgrounds here in the U.S., so there are other languages to be speaking.....no biggie, and you can put down your butter knife, I'm not at war over it, lol..  

Believe it or not, I like the sound of German, and have been trying to teach it to myself... I am getting a little here und there, and hope to learn more.

You HAVE to watch the "Fawlty Towers" episode called "The Germans" then. to this day it's one of the few things that can make me laugh so hard I've got tears in my eyes! (It's John Cleese, of course!)


Vic... I'm in union City, and I'M the foreigner here. Everything is in spanish. I had to get cat food at a  store and couldn't remember the spanish word for "cat food" so I had to mime eating motions and  go "Meow! Meow!"

Spanish is so prevalent in NYC now, that often you call a city services phone line, and the answering machine will start out in spanish and give you english second.

Honestly, I do find it upsetting. If I can pick up enough spanish to get by to speak with those living in the area, the least they can do  is consider learning the native language of the country they wish to join. I'm not asking for Dickens here, just the few hundred basic words  you use on a daily basis to get about.
