Avis...I agree, however it is a fact that some people DO need narcotic pain relief. Then some start on pain meds for a temporary condition and can't stop.  Please don't judge those who have severe chronic pain...those who would have no quality of life without potent pain meds. I take 40 mgs of methadone daily and I do NOT get any HIGH...just dramatic relief from severe and chronic pain...the meds allow me to enjoy life...without them I can barely walk let alone have any life at all. We, as medical patients with real conditions  have the right to have our pain treated, even though the DEA is sayin we do not, and are browbeating and threatening our doctors into refusing to prescribe the medicine that can make our lives livable.

Well problem solved friends...My uncle who is a physician from way out of town heard of my dilemna and pulled some strings...he set me up with a pain specialist wo is in practice close to me...my 1st appt is tomorrow. The dr was nice enough to call me ON A SUNDAY no less! and he was horrified at how my previous dr just cut me off after 3 plus years of prescribing one of the strongest and most addictive drugs known to man. He does want to try other drugs besides methadone but says that with my conditions he does NOT want me to stop the methadone for a while. Thank God I don't have to deal with the suboxone thing by myself. I think doctors who do this to patients should have to face ramifications for actions like this and I fully intend to pursue this matter.Drs like him are using the excuse that in the wake of prescription narcotics abuse so widespread in this country, the DEA is negatively affecting the way drs prescribe pain meds. There are people like me who NEED permanent pain relief to attain quality of life that is bearable and we have the right as patients to be reasonably pain free. I will be starting a web site for people like me who are being denied pain meds because of the DEA and people who abuse these important drugs.
THANKS TO ALL THE GREAT PEOPLE ON HERE WHO TRIED TO HELP i WILL BE IN TOUCH...t

Thank you so MUCH wendy! Yes, I do know all about being in full withdrawal before taking the subs...I am also experienced to a degree on my withdrawal symptomology. III have had exp withdrawals on 4 occassions (sp? thats the only word that gets me lol!) I fully intend to wait a full 48-72 hours to avoid precipitated withdrawals. Believe me since my doc abandoned me for NO reason I have been researching this and fully believe subs are my only choice. I apologize if I seem defensive but yeah I am kinda shaken up about this whole thing. At first I could'nt believe my dr could do such a thing. Especially since he was the one who prescribed them and told me that I would have to be on them for life. And to think just a few short years ago I was healthy and active never sick a day....then it seemed like overnight it all came crashing down. I spent my life in a high risk profession that would not allow for insurance of any kind, but I had years of savings that I unwisely assumed was enough for any situation...WRONG!!! My conditions have eaten all my savings voraciously, now I am nearly destitute ....almost! But thanks for the post kiddo it was appreciated.

The MOST important thing I forgot to mention. Subs are different than any other drug. LESS IS MORE!!!  Please keep that in mind. Read, read, and read some more a out that statement pertaining to subs. I can't say anything more important than that.

I know we can't give medical advice here, other than just maybe an opinion here and there. So I want to make it known I'm not giving you medical advice of any kind, but I don't think it's against the rules to give you my opinion, and/or some helpful advice that may very well help keep you safe, without giving any type of medical advice. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong about that. Ok, with that being said...I've followed your posts you've been leaving, and I can tell you're scared, and also that you're in somewhat of a sticky situation, and you seem set on taking
the subs. Without giving medical advice, I can only tell you what I know. You need to be in full blown wd's before taking subs, or you will be very sorry. The tricky thing about methadone or any drug someone might take regularly, your mind plays tricks on you and you may assume you're either in wd's, or you should be, simply because you suddenly stopped taking something that you're used to taking. Kind of hard to explain, but I'll try. I guess what I'm saying is, when you don't take something that first day and night, you may assume your in wds or about to be, because your whole routine changed. Still not making myself cleat, but maybe someone understands what I mean. You REALLY need to be in FULL BLOWN wd's before beginning subs. Tricky thing with methadone is the long half life. Your mind may cause you to begin to feel some wd's type symptoms, even tho you're not really in wd's. Make sense?  Also, full blown wd's from methadone take awhile, not to mention that anywhere you read you will find that people who started subs after methadone waited at LEAST 70'ish hours before beginning the subs. You mentioned you didn't get them from a Dr, so you will also need to find out how to begin the subs, and begin tapering off of them almost as soon as you begin taking them. Otherwise, I would think you will find yourself  having wd's from both the meth and the subs when the 58 you have are all gone. If you're dead set against talking to a Dr because you just don't want to, or you can't find a Dr, whatever the case may be.....it's none of my business, but I'd certainly say you should call a pharmacy, a rehab clinic, methadone clinic, or even one of the 24hr hotlines set up for rehabs, or N/A maybe. Possibly even poison control as a last ditch effort. I don't know that any of this helps you at all, and as I said, I'd certainly never attempt to give true medical advice. BUT, I did feel compelled to at least reply and maybe give a few suggestions on how to stay safe. I suppose if all else fails, maybe use one of the many search engines available and see what you come up with. Good luck, and keep posting, especially if you don't yet have any aftercare in place, as you will need a morale boost here and there. Most of all, be safe and be smart about what you're doing. Dr's know best about such things.

I read your post, or I couldn't have answered you.  Please don't be so defensive.  We just don't want to do something that would hurt you.  And we really can't suggest a dosage for something we don't know about.

Sorry you got offended.  I wouldn't want to tell anyone something that could kill them if I were wrong.  Starting with one would be a good idea. I certainly wouldn't take more without talking to a doctor.

Good luck to you.

I hope that you will reconsider and see a doctor. Suboxone is a program as well as a medication. It is not only used to fend off the withdrawal, it is used to help people "get on track" so to speak. Usually the prescribing doctor will suggest counseling and other forms of aftercare.

Good luck and hope you stick around here. There are a lot of good members here who can help you through this.

Honey, there's nobody here who can do that.  It's against the rules!  Have you thought about calling a pharmacy to ask about dose?  Or a rehab center?

Generally, suboxone should be prescribed...obviously!  I don't know that anyone here would have a clue how much to tell you to take even if we could!  We aren't doctors and don't know your medical history, so it would be unsafe to do that.

Your doctor is the only one who can tell you that, because he/she has met you face to face and is in a position to prescribe ,we can't do that.             kc
