5th day on Suboxone

Well first off I want to say thank you for all the inspiring postings. I have been taking suboxone since monday. I started off with 8 mgs a day. I felt great and happy. The third day is when the cravings started. I called my doctor and he suggested I take another 8 mgs. So I take 8 mgs in the morning and 8 mgs in the evening. It worked wonders. I am still doing great, making sure I stay well hydrated and eat small meals like the Dr. suggested. However being day 5 and the weekend I find myself craving vicodin more and getting angry easy. I am not having any withdrawls but I wonder if anyone else is experincing this? I use to take 10 vicodins a day on the weekends. Weekends meant family outings, hubby home etc so to keep up with everyone I would take up to 10 vicodins a day starting on friday - sun. This is my very first weekend not doing it. Should I call my Dr and telling him about my cravings? I called him about me getting aggitated and angry, He said now I should see why I took vicodins not only for pain but cause I was angry.

My knee or back do not hurt like they did when I was taking vicodin so that a good thing :) However is anyone going threw the same thing? Is it some kind of withdrawl? I am also on Cymbalta for depression I got after I had my daughter. Someone have any insite? Suggestions? I took 2 mgs of sub earlier but the cravings are still there... Hmmmm what to do?

i am still reading it...its taking me forever to get through all of the information it has to offer...but i have limited time also...

i think everyone who is taking sub,or  HAS taken sub or IS thinking about sub....should read this information.   i thought i knew a lot...until i started reading this TIP40 book...i was wrong...

I agree wait2long.  I've been doing even more reading and where I was once ok with all the different opinons on the usage of sub, I'm now thinking that short term detox only recommendations are possibly inresponsible or at least not giving the person the best chance for long term recovery.  That TIP40 book (I believe I sent it to you) is clear about long term usage being the best chance.  Did you read all of the experts and experience that went into that?  I feel so much better now about being long term. When I get a chance I'm going to post something with the link to that book so everyone can see it without having to email me.  In my opinion no one should ask for advice or even consider going on sub before reading this.

suboxone is supposed to help with your cravings whether your on long term or short term...i am on long term maintainence (sp?)...i will stay on the sub as long as i need to, and it was not made for short term only...sorry, but i'm not going back to where i came from, no relapse here, simply wont allow that to happen to me, i have way too much invested in getting better...it took me quite a while to get to the point of addiction i was at...and i expect it will take quite a bit of time to get back to the addiction free lifestyle that i am now living...its never an overnight success either way

the failure rate of short term soboxone use is quite high...i refuse to risk it.

If you're allowing your Sub to take care of your cravings when the Sub is over you will relapse or you will have to stay on Sub forever.
If you dose it low because you're doing a short detox to avoid further withdrawals (less than 21 days)and for which it is specifially designed, you will have to find another way to deal with the cravings which will fade in time if you do the next right thing in your life.
So in other words, life on life's terms cannot be dealt with by trading one addiction for another.

suboxone most certainly does take care of cravings...unless your dose it too low, then it wont, and cravings  are a part of the withdrawal process.

but will have to agree about the therapy...therapy is a MUST.  i recommend one on one therapy

SUB is not supposed to take care of cravings.  There are other htings for that such as therapy or posting here or MEETINGS.  Sub takes away the physical withdrawal and then when that is over the real work begins inside your head.  If you are an addict you will always be an addict and unless you do something to change the way your MIND works, it won't matter if yo're physically "well" until you're mentally "well".
I suggest NA.  Please consider it and good luck to you.

Please go back and see your Doctor. I had been on Vic 30-40 10mg pills a day. I now take 8mg Suboxone a day, and have maybe one short craving a day. (week 11 now!) If dosed right you should not have any cravings. Also listen to the Doc and stay away from those triggers!

OOOps forgot.  I'm into weird book lol like Stephen King is my fav also like Dean Koontz.  But I do like others at times - like my sister's keeper by Jodi Picoult and some others.  Lovely bones is one.  There is one I have I'm going to reread from years ago.  It's short and different but it's anonymous and it's a diary of a young girl.  (real actual diary) she experiments with sex and drugs and something happens.  Dont want to tell you unless you want to know.  But very good.

I love Nicolas Sparks, VC Andrew and such like books. Know of any good books?
I am going to do ebay and sell somethings too keep my busy. My daughter outgrew most of her gymboree clothes.. Funny things is I looked at her clothes today and relized I spent like 1500 on gymboree clothes for her while High and she hardly wore any of them. Now I can see why my hubby got upset when I kept coming home with more clothes for her... hahaha

After discussing it with my doctor he wants me to become stable before I start therapy. He is not sure if NA will do right now because after a 2 hour talk with him, he feels one on one therapy is better for me. See I started taking vicodin the night my daughter was born. They gave me 3 pills that night to help with the after contractions. I was released with 20 vics with 2 refills. I took them not thinking. I ran out no problem until I injuried my knee at my daughters cheer practice (those darn high flyers... lol) Well the doctor gave me 120 vics for months. I found it also helped with the loss of my mother. See my mother passed away from lung cancer, I found out she had lung cancer the night I took her to the ER, Here I was all alone 9 months pregnant finding out my mother had lung cancer. She passed 3 days later. I was left to take care of my father as well has be strong for my kids. 3 weeks later I gave birth to my daughter. So as me and my Dr think my addiction to vicodin was to help take away the pain from my mothers death. Thats why he suggests one on one therapy when I get stable... I feel good no depression just get mad very easy.. aggitated is more like it..

I will do what you suggest with the cravings.. I need to go by a book.. I read 2 books since monday.. My favorite this is to sit outside with my Pepsi, Book and a cig... But I have no book.. I think I will run to borders right now!!! Thanks hun for responding to me.

Oh I forgot to also say I have one hobby I love. I love making Baby Hair Bows, but my Dr suggest I stay away from it cause I use to do it while taking Vics... I miss designing my bows :(

Talk about it.. there are many ways to get rid of cravings. Most times the craving only lasts 15 minutes of so. Keep busy. Find something you can do to distract yourself.

Have you started any aftercare to work on why you were taking pills?? some kind of therapy or meetings?
