Wan2Befree,
Sorry this is long but I had to get this off my chest and I think we have similiar circumstances.
I've been reading these types of forums for the past week and I probably have 100+ hours. Not only for the advise but also for the mental support and to help pass time. I too am weaning off oxycodone and from my 100+ hours of reading, I can tell you that weaning is the best way to stop especially if you don't have the time to quit CT and be very sick for a week +. Weaning takes planning and will power. I have a business, wife, 3 kids, etc.. and I don't have the time to be extremely sick. The following is what I recommend because I'm now on day 5 and it is working for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm far from being okay but it's been manageable. I did try CT once and I was so sick for 3 days I decided to just get my oxy to feel better and that was 8 months ago.
Day 1-Take your last normal dose.
Day2 -Take 2/3 your dose for 3 to 4 days.
Day5 -Take 2/3 of your last dose for 3 to 4 days.
Day 8-Take 2/3 of last dose for 3 to 4 days
And so on until you reach none, this is then called "jumping in" when the next day is zero doses.
Basically reducing the dose by 1/3 every 3 to 4 days until all gone. Wow, I should of just said that.?.
Next would be the vitamins, amino acids, and electrolytes. Just Google it. "What vitamins should I take for opiate withdrawals?" and so on. I was very surprised with the outcome of the search and it finally lead me to this site and a few other's of people just like us needing help and advice.
Please know I'm just relaying the best info I've come up with by reading hundreds of threads the last week from current and even back to 2005. Also, Marijuana has been a great help for me through my weaning.
I took my last full dose last Sunday (80mg) and drank a few beers. Monday only had 2-15mg oxy's left and a handful of hydro's 5/500. I took the 2 oxy in the am and 5 hydro's in the pm. I also started looking for more oxy and none to be found. I felt like **** that night. Drank beer and fell asleep. Tuesday took 5 hydro's in am and 5 hydro's in the pm. Drank 4 beers and felt great for 2 hours and then I started falling fast. At the same time I got a call from the last resort and nothing! Of course these last few days have had me thinking nonstop about my addiction and how I wanted my life back so bad. All of a sudden I clicked. I knew I had these hydro's and a friend mentioned to me when I asked him if he wanted any he said "hell no those suck, only good for weaning". Not until I started surfing the net did it all finally come together. Weaning? Okay what is this and what is the best way? This again, is what led me this great forum.
I had 14 - 5/500 hydro's so this is what I had to work with. Tuesday woke up feeling ****** and no energy. Made it through the day laying on the couch and finally after 30 hours of no opiates I took 2 hydro's, only 10 mg total. I actually felt the buzz and it knocked the edge off. So I had been doing 80 mg of oxycodone, the next day 55mg, the next day 50mg and then 10mg.
This is how I'm weaning off because this was all I had:
Started this Wednesday 10mg a day for 3 days, 7.5mg a day for 3 days, 5mg a day for 2 days and then 2.5mg for 3 days. After that I'm all out. I'm currently on the second day of 7.5mg.
ITs day 5 and I'm gonna make it and I can already tell I'm getting better. I also haven't had a beer since Tuesday night.
Sorry to make this so long but this is the advise I want to give you because it seems to be working for me. The first couple days are pretty hard but like all have said, keep busy with whatever! Movies and reading these threads is what I'm doing and taking care of 3 kids because my wife if out of town.
Take a picture of your family with your phone, put it as your screen saver and when it gets real bad and your mind starts playing games with you, look at that beautiful family you have and cry out loud how much you LOVE them and you will NOT give up and you CAN do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have heard that weaning, or "tapering" is alot easier to deal with. I am taking my last normal dose today and starting the process of tapering tomorrow. Thank you so much for the advice. It makes me feel so much better to know that im not alone in this. I really appreciate the help and your time and consideration. I will keep you posted on my progress.
The rough thing for me is that i quit smoking weed a year or so ago and i dont drink at all so once i break free from this addiction i will be completely clean, but i will be handling this all sober. I took your advice and have a picture of my kids and fiance as my phone wallpaper for support. Thank you again paul, greatly appreciate everything
