When I was using my Meds I thought I had Fibro, Arthritis and everything else.
I do have Bulging disc but when I came clean all that pain went away..I used to lay on a Heating Pad and then use Ice too..I would alternate them. The pain in my spine where there is a sac was the last to go..I think it might have been about 3 months later..I can not really remember becasue there was so much more going on..Just hang in and give it TIME!!! If not go to the Dr and see if maybe you can get some of those shots..My Hub has had them becasue he has a really bad back from working our Drywall Business..Age plays a big roll on bouncing back..BUT like they said, stretches and some hot & cold and maybe a message, baths and small walks....I wish you the best..Congratulations on your Clean days so far SuzzQ..You are doing good..Do not go backwards only forward.
Bless
I had 3 failed back surgeries and have severe scoliosis and my sciatica nerve is pinched in the rods and screws they put in my back....
The only medication I am on is aspirin and only took pain meds while in the hospital after the surgery.
I started a physical Therapy Program that I continue to this day. Every day I walk, not too good and not always upright, but I walk a few steps more every day ...I stay out of stores that do not have shopping carts and I use the shopping carts as a walker for my exercises. If the pain is too bad, then I rest. Sometimes I have to rest for a few days, but the pain usually stops screaming at me after about 24 hours.
I also journal and talk to my pain, sometimes not real nice, and I tell it that IT is not the boss of me. I also listen to my pain and it will tell me if I am doing too much, or doing the wrong things, or suggest to me in many cases that I should go home and treat myself good with a Hot water pack or a ice pack and maybe even an ice cream cone while I am sitting there...
The doctors tell me that someday I will be in a wheelchair because of my back and scoliosis....I tell them not to bet their Rent Money on that prediction. And So I continue walking.
I do know what you are going through, and I do wish you the very best ...

I realized I had aged a lot while on pills. My pain has gotten better than it was the first 3 months, but there is a certain amount of general wear that I hadn't noticed during my years of use. I bought a tens unit, have an exercise I do rolling on tennis balls, and eat omega rich foods to help with the remaining pain. Regular chiro visits and stretching helps too. At a month I would expect it to get better, but you are 13 years older now. I hope it goes away completely, but I would think about alternative pain management anyway. Hang in there and do whatever it takes to heal.
Hi SuzzQ,
Just to comment I was still in pain for about 2 weeks and had some odd aches and pains for the following month. I'm no expert but you were on the pills for a long time 13 years, I was on codeine for about 1-2 years. If you are still in lots of pain it might be wise to go back to you doctor to see if you have a legit problem that you can seek alternative non narcotic alternative for? There are lots out there.
But, you weren't in pain while at Disney World? It took 3 days to be in pain? Thank You...
Everyone is different but mine did get better with time. I remember being 30 days clean and decided to take my family to disneyworld. After about 3 days I was some miserable pain! I used ice packs on my back and ate advil around the clock. I survived but it was a awful experience. With time I gradually got better and I'm doing quite well now. Hope this helps a little.
