24 weeks pregnant and have occasionally done Percocet

I am not asking these questions to be judged and put down cause I already know what I did was stupid. I am 24 weeks pregnant and I have used Percocet here and there. I have only done it about five times. I am not addicted and do not have any withdrawals but I was wondering if my baby will be okay and if when I give birth the opiate will show up in his fetus or be in his system. I am stopping as of now and don't ever plan on being stupid again. I just don't want my first born to be taken away. And I also don't want to make my family think I am a druggie cause I am not.

Taking opiates can be harmful to a developing fetus.  While you got high, so did the baby.   Other effects possible:

Developmental Delays
Damage to the Placenta Material
Abnormal Uterine Contractions
Reduce Blood Flow to the Placent

If you took a drug over and over (5 times, you said) while knowing it was the wrong thing to do, that is the very definition of addiction.

You don't want to be labeled a "druggie" but you have to face that what you did does fall into that category.   Not judging you, but I am also not going to lie to you...

The responsible and adult thing to do would be 1. Never take another opiate that isn't prescribed for you by a DOCTOR.   2.  Tell your Ob-Gyn what you did.  Your baby could have been harmed, and if you love that child, you need to put aside your own fears and do what is best for the life growing in side of you.   3.  You are at increased risk for a pre-mature birth, and yes, it is possible the baby will test positive for opiates.    If you get a jump on this and tell your doctor FIRST, ask for help, agree to go to therapy, you stand a better chance of keeping the baby when it is born.

We all make mistakes; no one is perfect.   But taking responsibility for those mistakes is what successful people do...

It will be a difficult conversation to have with your doctor, but I still think you should honey.   Do it for the baby...

Good luck,
-Robin
