7 days clean from hydrocodone anyone else been here?

I am new here but have read some old posts on how to detox from hydrocodone. I did every step of the "Thomas something detox" and it seems to be working. Sorry I can't remember the exact name of it but it was cold turky and now it's Sunday day 7 for me and still clean. I have chronic back pain due to lifting my 189lb son who is in a wheelchair. I have been continuing to lift him cause I have no choice. Back to the subject, just want to know if anyone else has been at this stage of detox? Thanks for any advice.

7 days for me today. I was on them for 1 year. I have sponyloptosis and three herniated cervical disk. Withdrawals were bad 2 days in as I went cold turkey. The ER doc gave me 10 anxiety pills to help and they did. I am also taking vitamin B liquid, and a daily vitamin. I went to my dr. Yesterday because my pain was almost unbearable. He put me on flexeril and mobic for the arthritis I have in my spine. I got a great nights sleep. Have more energy today and went to the YMCA for some light exercise. I have a referral in to a local spine surgeon. No more pain Dr.s for me. I will never take
opiates again. The key is light exercise to keep your muscles as strong as possible. Good luck everyone!

Congrats, do you feel like you are on speed? Cause I have done nothing but talk my poor family to death. Everyone is saying I sound better. Still some withdrawals and a little pain but nothing that tylonal won't help. Good luck.

Well I was on them for 3 years almost and most of that was part of my husbands prescription poor guy hid them and I kept finding em. But when he went back to work I had to learn how to take care of my so all by myself again. Poor kid, to make things worse I had to bathe him on my 4th day and he kept saying "I am so sorry momma you have to do this". So talk about that purple haze.... I had to feel that. I told him God is holding us both up now. That was some exercise and I did feel a little better. I am staying hydrated and eating a little more. I didn't realize it would be so amazing talking to you all but I am finding strength here. so if you're new and just reading try posting these people are very helpfull, just do it.

1st congrats on7days and I also want to say u r an amazing mom taking care of your son. That in itself is an amazingly strong thing to so and shows once u put your mind to something you can do it!!!I have been clean for 16days of years of lortab abuse(up2 15_10's a day).I did it cold turkey&I feel like a different person.I realized I no longer have hardly any pain(like others said its crazy). It ***** that your still having pain because your having to do the same thing that causes it but this AGAIN shows how strong u r not to start using again. It continues to get better btw everyday.I take cymbalta for depression and also its approved as a non narcotic pain reliever and it helps ALOT but your n a unique situation and I think you should tell your doctor u don't want opiates bit wanna try something else.I hope you can find your help and your doing great.I'm praying for u and please keep posting.

Ok now that u read the pm, is your son still on your husbands insurance?  If so, you need to do some research becuase your insurance company should pay for stuff to help in the bathroom.  Depending on how disabled your son is, they can pay for a lot of stuff, you jsut need to figure out what you need to provide them with to make them pay.  I know we got the insurance to pay for a swing thing that you sat in and could swing the person over the tub in so that you could shower them without having to lift them.  Also, they paid for a railing in the shower.  It's all about playing the stupid insurance game, but if your do you can force them to stand behind the policy your husband pays for.

That's great that your husband is aware but have a serious heart to heart with him and explain how crucial it is that you don't see those pills, and for goodness sake tell him your not going to pick them up from the pharmacy for him!!!  That was a shocker for my husband becuase i used to always take care of that for him, and he looked at me like WHAT??? U mean I HAVE to go get my own medicine!  LOL

Dizziness was part of it for me too.  R u eating?  Dizziness can be from low blood sugar or dehydration too.  Your brain is going to do whatever it can to get you take more drugs.  So be careful not to fall or get unsteady, no ladders ya know?

Remember this, your mind is your most powerful tool.  Keep a positive attitude, and do some light exercise.  I HATE exercising but when i do get my heart rate up i get the release of endorphines and i feel SOO much better.

Also try to do something nice for yourself.  Do something just for you, your going to enter what i call the purple haze stage, where you start to feel again, and everything is really beautiful, and your emotions are heightened.  I remember the first time i got mad, i SCREAMED at the poor check out clerk at the grocery store for being an idiot and i was SO mad, but i walked out of the store kinda laughing becuase it felt soooo great to feel the emotion of mad again!  No more numbing out emtions and the ride can be a lot fun!!!

Yes my husband knows and he has been out of town on a job so detoxing was a little better cause he would of gave in to me. He had someone come stay with me to help with my son but I have been forcing myself to care for him myself and it's really not so bad. I am a little dizzy, is that part od this? Yes, I believe he is addicted too but he is not ready. I told him to HIDE them when he is home. I think u r right, I am going to tell my doc I need another option, thank you

You hit the nail right on the head. Unfortunately Oklahoma is one of the worst states for aid to the handicapped. We were even denied equipment for the bathroom. Plus I know the system, I was a specialized foster parent for a year until Feb this year and I closed my home when I realized and admitted to myself I am addicted. My husband has great insurance any suggestion would be great. But yea so true about the pills making the pain in my back worse, weird huh?

Yes it does get better!  And isnt it funny how the pain is not as bad as we thought it was?  Wierd.

I too know what its like to have a husband on the meds, mine just got twenty pills last week and i had to call the doctor and ask him for them!  So, i told my husband that i was sick of those pills and i didn't want to see them.  I told my doctor that i did not want anymore pills.  Maybe you should tell your doctor that you don't want anymore pills?  Just tell him that you've done some research and are worried about long lasting effects of narcotics, that you've made the decision not to continue on those pills and that you would like to seek alternative pain options.  That was really hard for me to do because i thought the doc was going to think poorly of me but when i bucked up and told him?  He was very understanding.  Cutting off your supply is key to staying clean so don't wait, as temptation *****.  If your worried about your husband any GOOD doctor will realize that one patient has nothing to do with the other and if that doctor changes what he px's for your husband because of you?  You need a new doctor.  But your going to need to do something to cope with temptation being right under your nose, ya know?  Have you ever thought that your husband is addicted also?  I've read alot about opiates and alot of studies have shown just what you and i have noticed, that being that opiates help short term to trick the mind from feeling pain but really after a week or two, the opiates can trick your mind to thinking that your in more pain that you really are.  Does your husband know about your addiction?  Mine didn't for i think that first two weeks of detox and i finally told him.  And beleive it or not he was VERY understanding and that's why when he really needed the pills he was awsome about hiding them from me so i never even thought about stealing one.  So tell us a little more about your situation so we can give you some tips to stay clean.

I haven't told my doc yet and am afraid if I do he will cut my husbands meds. That recently happened and we changed docs. My husband is working in the oil feild and useually only takes what he is perscribed (when I wasn't sneaking his). I do know I have to find a way to manage my pain but more important my addiction. I too have that addictive personality. But truth... the pain in my lower back is getting better. We live in a small town so NA or AA is not an option. Yes I know that's just an excuse and not a good one. For now all of the posts on here have been so my lifeline. I didn't believe ya'll when you said "hang in there, it does get better" to the others on here BUT IT'S TRUE. I am seeing the light at the end of this 5 to 7 perks or hydro 10/500 every day. Thank you guys so much for your reply.

Great Job on seven days.  Yup, right there with you, this tues will be 4 weeks clean from hydro's and i originally started abusing because of back pain.  Same thing as you used the Thomas Reciepe.  So my guess is you feel alot better from the physical withdraw and its getting easier but the want is probably still there.  So here's my advice.  Back pain ***** but for alot of us its a fact of life.  I'm taking motrin 800 for back pain but i'm going to look into injections for my back.  Funny thing though, now that i'm clean, my back doesn't hurt as bad as i thought it did, kinda like the drug made it hurt worse.  I really think that you need to see your doctor for other options for pain relief.  The other thing, and please don't get mad at me for saying this but, you need to look inside yourself and think about why you started abusing the drug.  This is harder for me than the physical withdraw part.  I mean, most times we abuse because something in our life is making us unhappy right?  I know that you said you are taking care of your son and although i never had to care for a son, i did care for my aunt and grandma who both had alzheimers, and i know about the lifting the dead weight, but there was ALOT more to it than that, the stress was overwhelming not to mention to consumption of your life!  SO maybe you should look into to getting some help for you son.  You live in the US and although a pain in the rear there are some options out there for in home help, have you considered those?

This site is great for help and the people here really do care and most have been through the process.  Congrats again for 7 days!!
