71 days off oxy. Is it normal to have such LOW energy?

Hi guys:

I'm really down today.   71 days clean.  I feel like a dishrag that has been wrung out a thousand times.

The overactive bowel I had that the opiates kept hidden all these years (at the risk of a perforated colon, i'm told) is back.

I just can't seem to muster any energy to do ANYTHING.  Is this normal?  I was on oxy for 8 years....and I'm 52.

Just had my physical; waiting for blood work to come back.

My doctor put me on Prozac...but it was a new generic type, and I broke out in hives the 2nd day I was on it. So no more AD's until the hives go away.   I feel like "Geez, God, Seriously"

I'm being such a good girl...I'm participating in my own recovery, trying to get exercise, being ruthlessly honest, and yet I still do not feel normal.

Sleep in my enemy.  I HATE it...when I do manage a few hours I always, always, have horrible nightmares.

Sigh.  Sorry to be whining.  I guess I need to hear it this incredible LACK of energy, ambition, etc is normal.  i feel so sad and apathetic.

Jugglin you are 100% right. I want to apologize for sounding so harsh, I jusy worry the new ones may lose hope sometimes.  But yes, I am close to 57 years old, and it has been quite a shock to learn this past year that I am old, I get tired,  I have aches and pains just like every other senior citizen. Apparently I was a legend in my own mind! Its a shock. Percocet made me feel young, energetic and invincible. Too bad it was just a lie lol. Again Robin, all apologies.

My experience in my late 40's was that my energy was pretty much back to normal after 30-60 days (not completely, but on its way). It was when other health issues kicked in (not related to opiate detox) that I lost my energy again. My body is constantly fighting pain thus is much more easily tired. I am wondering if because the drugs masked your health issues, you were getting false energy.  Your health issues, and not the detox, may be causing such an enormous lack of energy at 71 days. Just a thought.
Maybe your test results will provide answers.
I exercise when I can (not like the gym rat I used to be), take vitamins, and drink protein shakes, Emergen C, or Advocare's Spark to help, but alas have resolved that my body/health will never be the same due to my RA and not my opiate detox.
Just wanted to share this.

Yes it is very scary for the newbies to keep reading this horror story over and over again.  Surely there is something good about your recovery you'd like to share? Your experience is not the norm as by 30 days most people are feeling well and grateful to be clean.

Krissy:  Oh Geez, I didn't want to scare anyone.   I am a lot older than you, hon, and I think that has a fair amount to do with how long this is dragging out.

I also have hypothyroidism (although I take meds for it)) and IBS...both conditions the opiates masked SO well...until they turned on me, as they do everyone eventually.

And one more thing I should mention:  I had gum surgery (ok, I've mentioned it before) I had gum surgery 2 weeks ago, and they gave me pain meds, which I refused.  The recovery from THAT has been rough.

Yesterday was a bit better, but like most nights, I got only 1-2 hours of sleep last night.   Oh well...onward!

Wow!!! 71 days that's so amazing....but your symptoms scare me. That's so long to feel the w/d off oxy. That's like me. I was on oxy too. But I guess having in it my body for 11 years isn't going to make me better after a few weeks. You're so strong and brave!! I can't wait until I can be two and half months!! xox

Yes.this but is very normal. You will go 5/or 6 months but you will feel your strength return.I've been on opiates for 17 years.when no go into remission and take myself off it takes a while.take vitamins and minerals and vit b12 shots can help you with a boost.be patient with your body.sleep as your body tells you it needs to.

Hey Friend,
Congrats on getting  your life back!
yes, its normal and as time goes on you will get more and more energy. high anxiety is normal too, and that too sill subside.
even 4 months out I would unload the dishwasher 1/4 at a time and rest. take it easy on yourself, it will fall into place, I promise.
hugs,
lily
