Much better advice than mine...pills are pills whether they're natural herbs or not...the point is to break the cycle, not trade-off...=)

I was the same as you..in bad shape on them, and very dependant on them.

One day, I just said to myself, this is stupid..I just quit drinking from my chronic alcoholism, and now I am addicted to over the couter sleep aids...

So I just made up my mind, gave it to God, through them in the dumpster, and suffered 6 weeks of sleepless nights and agony...but I look back at it now, and wonder what in the world was I thinking?

My advise: Your not to weak, and you not going to die....just make your mind up. If you want to quit, just drop them, and dont turn back. We all have to reap what we sow.

You seem strong enough, its just a matter is you want to stop the addiction.

God Bless,
Todd

This might sound stupid, but some people swear by those herbal supplements to help sleep ( valerian, chamomile, etc) But I have to have "white noise" to sleep. I use a fan at home, when I'm out camping, the frogs and crickets do me just fine!!..=) hope this helps...cat

Rondec is a prescription cold/cough syrup..I just swig it from the bottle but I'm careful, I pretty much know what a teaspoon is...alka seltzer made me kind of "speedy", one of the ingredients was banned from otc drugs, I'm not sure, but I think Rondec MIGHT have that same ingredient, can't remember the name of it though.

No, but now I take Rondec-DM (rx), I think it's a mind thing, kind of replacing one with another...I was on that Alka-seltzer for YEARS...it's a wonder my heart didn't explode with all the aspirin and sodium alone..combined with heavy drinking and other assorted stuff...=/

If you take them long enough they are.

I remember, when I was taking 3 x the max dose on Benadryl, and Unisom...I only started with 1, but tolerance grew, and grew. I was not drinking or doing drugs at this point, but I was out of control on these things.

Anyway, one day I just decided it was enough, and never took another one since..about 4-1/2 years ago. It took me 6 weeks to back to normal sleeping.

So, to an extent, anything can be addictive if you abuse it for other than it's original purpose.

God Bless,
Todd

I'm not sure, but I seemed to be dependent on benadryl and alka-seltzer plus cold medicine (the old formula from years ago). I bought both of those in bulk, popped benadryl like penny candy and brought 3 packets of alka-seltzer wtith me to work EVERY DAY..I worked 8-9 hrs/day...my co-workers and boss were concerned with me...I didn't think anything of it at the time..niot much of an answer ,sorry, I really don't know if I was "addicted" to them or not...
