Withdrawing from Stadol Nasal Spray

I have finally come to terms with my addition to Stadol NS.  I was originally prescriped Stadol NS for migraines during my two pregnancies since I could not take Imitrex.  After my first pregnancy five years ago I was able to stop with no problem and no side effects.  After my second pregnancy and now that my child is almost two years old, I cannot seem to stop snorting this ****.  I know that it is mostly physchological for me.  I guess I like the escape feelings I experience after taking it, the relaxation and calming effect.  Eventually, in addition to using the Stadol NS for migraines, I began using it to help me become drowsy and fall asleep because of a severe insomnia problem.  I've begun seeing a counselor and a psychologist but have not fully disclosed the severity of my dependency on Stadol.  Until I made my own decision a week ago to stop cold turkey, I was getting and using about six bottles a month (my insurance pays for that much) so I never put two and two together that I was overusing.  I knew that I needed to stop using it but, of course, didn't want to stop!  I was having multiple doctors prescribe the Stadol for me without me telling the other doctors about it and using multiple pharmacies.  Eventually, it caught up with me.  Now my primary care doctor is pissed and I guess rightly so.  It is probably a huge blessing in disguise and I have come clean in telling my wonderful, supportive husband the severity of my addiction.  I think that he kind of knew anyways but didn't know how to confront me.  Currently, since I am only in my first week of not having it, I'm experiencing some insomnia, nervousness/anxiety, feelings of dread (about what, I'm not sure - probably about not having the meds), some depression, etc.  Please tell me if these feelings will go away and how long can I expect these feelings to last/the withdrawal?  Any input or advise would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much!

From what I have heard you go along with him detoxing you that he will have to help you do or in some states if you don't want to go along he can give you a months worth of medicine and tell you to find another Doctor. I was Hooked on stadol a long time I am lucky in tolerance to stuff I managed to get off it just taking darvocet and a couple extra 0.5 xanax without any bad side effects ALL I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS STUFF IS STAY AWAY FROM IT OR USE IT SHORT TIME JUST A FEW MONTHS AT MOST

i have been using staodl for approx 10  years now.. 2 bottles every 6 days. i do not get drowsey and it keeps my headaches at bay. however without stadol i become sick..very sick.  ive been thru headache drs, had spinal surgey ( fusion) and pain management.  My dr all the sudden because of a new pharmacy manager has decided he doesnt want to prescribe it anymore.  what do i do after 10 years ( 4 of teh past in which he has prescibed) do?  i do not want to go thru withdrawl.. I do not take anything else for pain.  is the dr legally or ethically responsibe to help me slowely go off this medication?

I'm glad you found something that helped you. Just be very careful with the sub as it is a strong opiate and is even harder to detox from than other opiates. Be sure to do plenty of research so you can weigh the risks. There is no miracle pill as eventually you have to detox from sub. What works for one may no work for another. I feel sub should only be used as a last resort if someone fails multiple times trying to get off of their original opiate. Most of the time the worst of withdrawals last about a week but sub can last must longer. If using sub make sure to take advantage of the other tools of aftercare.

Suboxone is wonderful in getting off of opiates such as Stadol NS.  I have a month clean now!!  NEVER have I gone that long...NEVER!!  So, to all of you who are still using Stadol I urge you to google Suboxone on the computer and find a place near you that prescribes it.
