I know I'm going. The urologist insisted I take the amitriptyline. I got it last week. I only gave in last night because I'm trying to cut back on the oxycodone. She said it would help with the pain. It helped with sleep and it calmed things down. I don't want to take anything. I want my life back!
I have, he's sending me to every specialist in town. From gastroenterolgy, pain management, physical therapy, Psychiatry, to an obgyn. Only problem is it takes so long to see these people. I was in the hospital last nov for a bowel obstruction. That's when I found out about the adhesions. 2 weeks ago I went to the ER the pain was so bad. They ran some tests and referred me to the urologist and an obgyn. There's really nothing they can do about adhesions. If they remove them you get more adhesions. Last night was the first time in ages that I didn't get up every hour. Even though I don't like the side effects of this drug, it seemed to help. I guess the Psychiatrist is because I'm so upset. I cry most days and feel sorry for myself. I'm sure I need anger management to, lol. I'm very angry this all could have been avoided. I was misdiagnosed 5 years ago with the flu. I went home and my appendix burst. What could have been an in and out procedure turned into a major operation and a 2 week stay in the hospital. Anyway sorry for the long post.
Lulu, I'm the same way. all the antidepressants depress me, A lot of the pain meds do too. Antibiotics do the same thing. How can antibiotic do that? It makes my hair fall out too.
yes, it is a tricyclic which is the only kind that works for me. the others make me depressed to.
It's an anti-depressant? Huh. Maybe I knew that and forgot. This would make sense though because EVERY time I put an anti-depressant in me (even with Tramadol years ago) it makes me super depressed.
I still think we all need to make sure we get proper diagnoses before we start medicating. I think we could all avoid a lot of misery if we pushed to find solutions instead of just medicating problems.
I know everyone is different, but i took amitriptyline for years and had no withdrawal at all. it did make me gain weight which came off almost immediately,
it is a great anti depressant
As I mentioned in my PM-
You need to see a GI specialist ASAP.
You probably do have IC if you have constant pain and urgency and nothing shows in a urinalysis. But if you have bad pain in your gut this points to some form of IBD if accompanied by certain bowel symptoms.
Just a warning-
I went on amitryptoline when I was trying to find a non-narcotic option for my pelvic pain. It made me exhausted and depressed. I was on a high dose though and had not had a proper diagnosis yet. So make sure that you diagnose before you medicate.
This is JUST my opinion. But I think it's a good one (:
Lu
Get to your doctor and get this properly diagnosed hun.
I was given it for IC. I don't think I have it. I wasn't properly diagnosed, in my opinion. The pain seemed to be coming from my bladder. But last night it seemed to calm down whatever is going on in my gut. I have adhesions that are wrapped around everything. It could be anything. Thank you for your reply.
That should not be prescribed for pain or sleep. It was actually (years back) prescribed for depression. then it was discovered that it works for nerve pain and it is widely prescribed for that today. I take it at night and it helps me to get into a comfortable position and sleep without shooting pains going down my arms and legs. I don't know that it will help you through withdrawal..I doubt it. I also do not think you need to worry about withdrawal taking a half of 25 mgs. If you do that for a few nights and it helps well then that is great. Let us know what is going on from here. Keep up the good work with your taper.
