Hi fabio. Have you tried the Thomas recipe?? What have you tried in the past. How long have you been at that level?? I know how difficult this is. Are you aking 50 pills a day. Or 50 mgs?? Give me more info please.
Hi there, thanks a lot for the reply, i am taking 50 to 60 perks (pills) per day) i have been taking 8 pills 4 times a day now, and yesterday i decided to not buy anymore, today i just took my last 4 pills. I do not know what the Thomas recipe is, please explain
I have not tried anything in the past, i just started not to stop
On the bottom right of the page is a box with most viewed. In there you will find the Thomas Recipe with over the counter items such as Immodium to help ease your withdraw symptoms. Nothing will take them all away, but the things in there have helped alot of members here get through them.
How long have you been tapering. Was this a rapid taper or pretty quick?
I meant rapid taper or slow. Lol
Hey Fabio
Can you take a couple of days off work? I am thinking the next couple of days may be pretty rough. You should definitely get some imodium and gatorade. Staying hydrated is really important. If you can eat some light foods, like crackers, soup, bananas, mac and cheese, do so.
You are coming off a pretty high dose and it's not going to be easy.
Keep posting for support and let us know how you are feeling and what your symptoms are so we can offer help.
I jumped off a pretty high dose of Tramadol cold turkey, but I had done it before and knew kind of what to expect. Your dose was pretty high . . . have you been tapering down at all, or have you gone from 50 pills to nothing? Can you get some Clonidine? It is by prescription here in the US, don't know about where you are. It is a med that helps control blood pressure and I have heard can dramatically decrease withdrawal symptoms. You will definitely want to stock up on the Thomas Recipe items. Immodium will help a lot with the stomach issues and other OTC pain meds to help with the aches and pains (advil, Tylenol). I took Klonopin for the first week or so (it is a prescription benzo); it helped a lot w/anxiety.
I am all about doing the cold turkey thing IF it is safe in your situation (I was never able to taper). But given the high doses that you have been taking, I think you really need to proceed with caution here (if you have not tapered down some at least). Can you talk to or see a doctor before you stop completely? Do you have any other health issues?
Whatever you choose to do PLEASE be careful . . . it's awesome that you want to get off the pills. It is totally worth it on the other (clean) side, but you gotta here safely!
Please keep posting . . . . good luck - you can do it!
I did try to taper off but once i have the pills i fooled myself by sayng it's ok i can do this tomorrow, one i took all the pills then i knew i was doomed, that's why i have to stop cold.
I wish i can take some time off, I run this joint. Is it going to be that bad?
It is different for everyone, but it's like having a bad case of the flu. If there is any way you can get a day or two off, great. But if you cant, you will get through it.
Click on recent activity on the right, check out the journal entry "Why be scared" (commented on by Clean in Kansas). This is a really good time for you to read this one!
Good luck .. . you CAN do it!
Well, it's not going to be pleasant. There are people who have worked through it. I guess it depends on how bad you want it. Make sure you have imodium. Just think of it has having a bad flu. Keep checking in and posting and know that with every hour that passes you are closer to getting clean. You CAN do this.
I just glanced at your profile - if you have had heart issues recently, you really need to talk to a doctor before going cold turkey from that dose. CT won't kill you per se, but it will put a major strain on your body. Part of kicking these pills is coming clean to everyone in your life. A doctor is bound by confidentiality, so that is a great place to start!
I was taking a lot of pills every day..20 to 30 a day. I can't imagine coming off that high of a dose cold turkey and going on as usual...it just won't happen. You really should think about talking to a doctor to get some help, like with clonidine. If you have to work I honestly don't think vitamins are going to help you. They will benefit you but they won't do anything to help your wd's in a significant way. You need some professional help here to make life bearable for the next couple of weeks. As far as sleeping I was taking OTC sleeping pills, Benadryl, and muscle relaxers all at the same time and would never get more than 2 hours of sleep a night so don't count on that working too well...this is another issue the doctor could help you with. I hope you can stick with it and get through this tough time but really consider going to your doctor...it will make a world of difference. Good luck...
I really don't know how to start the conversation with my doctor, he is a good man, been there before and after my surgery (6 by-passes) I dont know what he will think of me.
So, the main advise for me is to talk to my doctor and not to quit CT because of the amount of pills that i am taking per day. If i taper off from taking 50 to 60 pills per day i should try cutting it down a bit till i reach to none. I guess i have to go see my guy to get more pills for the time eing, i was so aiming to quit CT, I want to thank everybody for responding and i will keep you guys posted in whats going on.
I hear you. Don't know how many times I would say 'tomorrow' but tomorrow never came. I had to CT myself. This is a cunning and baffling disease of the mind. It will tell us all kinds of lies and even though we know better, we believe them and do the very things we don't want to do!
Just finished reading the rest of the responses and I 100% agree that you need professional help here. I was at max dose 10x of the 10/325's. You are 5x's that amount and it was no fun at my dosing.
I went to my Dr about 5-6 years ago about an addiction to another substance. What I did was just tell him that I've got a problem with the meds I'm taking. Explained that my intent was not to abuse them, just wound up in a mess over time. Your Dr has seen and heard it all and if he is a good one, he understands the disease of addiction and will be very understanding. Everything you share with him is confidential, so don't worry aobut getting into trouble. Your Dr is going to be more concerned about your health anyways. Discuss your options with him about whether or not it would be a good idea to taper or if going CT with prescribed meds such as clonodine (the blood pressure med) and phenegran (for nausea). If he wants you to taper down to a certain level before jumping off them, is there someone that can hold them and only give you what you need for the day? If so, I would share that with your Dr. and maybe bring them with you to your appointment for support. It's possible your Dr may want to put you on Subs. Please do enlist the support and help of your Dr.
Thank you very much for helping me open my mind and finding the courage to talk to my doctor, i am going to make an appointment right now and i do hope he can see me tomorrow. I must say that it has been a long time since i got tears in my eyes after reading everybody's responses, i can't believe how many people out there willing to help a stranger over the net, i am the type to help people like the guys that work for me, i try to help them as much as i can when there are in need but never knew that there are people out there willing to share there demons and past like i have. I want to thank everybody and i will promise not just to myself but to all of you that i will try and try to beat this thing and i hope i can keep you guys posted. One thing i will start doing is telling you all what the doctor said and what he is willing to do for me.
Thanks again.
Fabio
GOOD FOR YOU!!! And yes, other recovering addicts have literally lived and walked your shoes. We have compassion for you because someone had compassion for us! It's so cool how that works!!
PLEASE let us know how your doc visit goes......we all care about you and are so happy you posted and were open......it will only get better.....
just remember.....we have to go thru it......not over it, or under it, or around it....but live THRU it......after the nasties come the goodies!
Bless you~
I totally agree. Talking with your doctor and working out a good taper plan that you can stick to would be the best option for you, now knowing your medical history.
Let us know what he says and best of luck.
Appointment made for tomorrow at 1:30pm. I will keep everyone posted once i get back from my visit.
Thanks again
Fabio
That's excellent news!! I can't wait to hear how it goes.
Please do. You have made a great decision.
That's so great that you have that appointment...just make sure that you keep it. I know that's a hard conversation to have but it's so necessary in your position. You absolutely need medical intervention in this process and you are so strong to admit that and go through with seeing your doctor. Be sure to lay it all on the table and don't hold anything back...lying about anything will just be robbing yourself of the help you need. Be open and honest and you will not regret it...you will get the help you need and finally have a chance at true sobriety. Good luck with your appointment and remember...total honesty!!! You owe it to yourself to be happy and healthy....give yourself that gift....you deserve it!!!
