WELL from what your telling me it seams to me only an inpatent program is going to work he wants out patent so he has control of his meds if he goes inside they have control of the meds try to find a place that n medicated detox meaning no methadone or sub he needs to come out clean but even then he will still have to treat the dieses if he is going to have long term recovery as for the pills once your out of control on them like he is there no longer an option he will not be able to retun to using them I know this is all a hard pilll to swallow but it is the brutal truth of the mater once an addict always an addict and from what you describe he is living in active addiction and needs help go for the inpacent I think it would be best again good luck with all this and God bless.......Gnarly
yes. Its an extremely rare condition. He has several blood vessels bringing blood into that area. they branch out, and some go nowhere, and there's not enough blood vessels taking the blood back out. This causes bad swelling, and pooling of the blood down there. He's had procedures done here locally and they've tried to plug up some of the blood vessels, but the surgeon said he doubted it would help because my husband has an extreme case, he's never seen it like that before. The Doctors here in E'ville won't touch it. He even begged one to amputate the most problematic testicle, but they won't do it. We did find a doc. in Chicago that deals with his problem, we even had an appointment, then my husbands job was outsourced and we lost our insurance. He's got a new job, and we're trying to recover $$ from all that mess, and are hoping to get him up there soon.
He's done it once before, and I've BEGGED him to do that again, but he says No, that the withdrawls are too bad. I've worried about his pain management also. I've tried to get him to give me the meds so I can HIDE them and give them to him the way he's supposed to take them, he refuses. (We tried it in the past and it doesn't work. He will destroy our home looking for them and verbally abuse me) I refuse to enable him, and that causes problems also. He will use the pain as a crutch. I have him going back to college (his idea) so he can get a job that is less physically demanding which will help with his pain issues, and get him out of the environment where he works with SEVERAL people addicted to pills. I'm at the end of my ropes and I'm tired of wondering "is today the day Gary is going to die from this?" and I am very concerned about the influence this will have on our son. I just don't know what else I can do?
the testicular pain is a new one on me. i dont know the pain associated with that. do they know the underlying cause?
if he has the pain even after 6 months of counseling and it seems six months of being on suboxone then what? his cravings might be gone but what about the pain.what would he do about it?
he has been on the loratabs for 6 or 7 years, has he abused them? ran out early? taken more than prescribed?
there is a difference between dependence and addiction
Here's what I've found from their site. "When you arrive at Assisted Recovery, a physician will quickly conduct blood and liver tests and a psychiatric evaluation. The next step is to begin medications such as Suboxone® (buphrenorphine) that relieve withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, body aches, cramps, nausea, restlessness, and irritability.
During this first week, you will spend a half-day at the clinic, returning home in the evening with a friend or family member. Now, you’re ready for the next phase: about six months of anti-craving medications and relapse-prevention counseling."
He said he wants to do NA meetings as well.
What do you think?

that is what the addiction recovery centers of america offer is a 2 week program. where are the support groups when he leaves and who runs them?
I forgot! He has tried other methods of pain control. At one point they had an electrical device implanted into his testicular area that was supposed to help control the pain, but it made it worse.
Nope. He refuses to do any one on one counseling. I tried to get him to do that last year. He has a mindset of a 2wk suboxone program, then a support group. He has a messed up testicular area which cause severe pain. All of his problems started when they prescribed him loratabs. At one point they had him on Oxcycotins, but he was able to get off of that Thank God. We live in a small town, and the rehabs around here aren't very good. We constantly argue over his addiction, as I cannot stand watching him kill himself, and the example he's setting for our kids. I want to help him get over this, and I truly believe he wants to, but its very hard to for me to help him when he's not "open to suggestions"
did he attend any one on one counseling? support groups? relapse is quite common if they dont get continuing support. did he try other alternatives to pain management besides pills? what type of pain does he have?
there are different schools of thought on subs.
He's been using them for about 6 or 7 years. He was able to stop for about 2 months last year after his job was outsourced, but as soon as he started working again his pain returned, and he went from nothing, to I can take them in moderation, to taking about 15 a day.
He's wanting to try Suboxone on an outpatient program.
hello and welcome to MH. i am the wife of a recovering addict. he has been clean for 17 months.
the center uses a non 12 step program and most likely suboxone. suboxone is another drug that is taken to stop the cravings of other opiates.
has he tried to stop on his own before? how long has he been using?
