hey people:
people taking either neurontin or tyileptal should be aware of two
things:
1) you just might be a victum of "pop medicine"
i don't wish to argue the efectiveness of either drug...although
neither one has ever helped me or my pain, there may be something
to their theraputic value. i suspect that both are over-rated in
this aspect. both of these drugs are "big earners" for the pharm
co. that hold the rights to manufacture.
2)BOTH OF THESE DRUGS ARE VERE PSYCHO-ACTIVE!
my own mother is on high dose neurontin and can (and does) act like the town drunkard. as jessy pointed out these drugs are not any fun to take. i suspect the manufactures are having the time of their lives....just like the locals who are cooking speed are enjoying themselves....lets face it making money can be lots of fun! that aside, it isn't a "tickle your toes, jump up and scream for joy" feel good. maybe if either can relieve pain, or at least help wtih it there is some merit to them. until the smoke clears it can be difficult to tell the differenc between a a misplaced **** and one of those farts that hangs low to the ground! what i mean is until the maufacture's turn off the hype and turn on the
facts who is to know for sure?
for what it's worth

Jess,
I don't know what other drugs you were taking for your pain, but it is possible if you took more than just the Neurontin that they did not mix well, or it's just not for you. I took it for quite a while with no problems, but my doc did not want to mix it with other central nervous system affecting drugs such as the Klonopin, so I eventually went on that which is the best for temporal lobe seizures.
Take care, and ingore the jealouse ones. Some one obviously felt they were not getting enough attention and decided to harrass you. That happens on the streets too so just ignore the fools.

Hi, Connie-
Skip is RIGHT on his call regarding Barbituates. When I checked myself into inpatient treatment (for alcoholism) the facility also treated those with Opiate, benzodiazapine, methamphetamine and related addictions and their associated withdrawals. Of ALL the people who were in treatment, and I saw just about any addiction you can imagine, it was those people who were coming down from barbituates that had the toughest time of it PHYSICALLY. Your situation DOES warrant inpatient care, and probably 24 hour monitoring for the first few days.
Listen... You are WORTH IT!
My treatment was NOT covered by my insurance, so I got stuck with an $18,000 bill that's going to take a long time to pay off. But, know what? I'm going to live to make those payments, and my family isn't going to be making funeral arrangements in the near future [as they most likely] would have if I'd continued on my chosen Alocoholic/Addict path.
That advice goes for ALL of you readers of this post who would go into treatment if it "Didn't cost so mucn."~~~~ Get with it, People- we ARE worth it! We are worth so much MORE than that bottle of Pills or that bottle of Booze!
Do the RIGHT thing.

Yow, Skip! That's quite a cautionary tale. I cop a Fiorinal scrip every so often, but never enough to get caught up in it. It sounds like you know the drill. The medical route sounds like the best advice anyone could give on this one.
