... and don't you dare leave!

I need you here, as do many others....

If you do, then you walk away with my blood on your hands.  How's that for a guilt trip?

Seriously, I need you here... me and many more.

I get you.   I spoke differently when I was going in to a mens prison with a panel of NA members.  It certainly wasnt the "honey its gonna be ok" approach.   It was blunt honesty and I wasnt passing out warm fuzzies.    I guess its all about knowing when and where to use which approach.
I remember I took a panel into a treatment hospital in a richer part of town.  I was ready to use my "balls to the wall" approach and then in walks my audience which consisted mainly of rich upper class people who were 50 - 80 yrs of age.   I found that our ending point (desperation, institutions etc) was the same but didnt talk to them like the men in the prison camp.

Time teaches us things if we stay clean, thank goodness for that, huh?

You do good work here, you should keep it up. I'm sure you will!

Are you still doing the sunday I.M. meetings? I was curious about "showing up". I just tried an MA meeting the other night.
It was going great until I realized that they were coming from the point of view that "Being on methadone maintenance" is the same thing as being clean to them. There view is they're all damaged (physically-brain, the whole "imbalanced brain chemistry theory) and have no choice but to take it. Once they explained that to me.., lets just say it didn't go well from there.

The most accurate statement to an addict, "The truth hurts!" applies to so many of us. I hate to think about the things i have done and the people I have lied to and stolen from but I have to face it.  I think more of us need your straightforward approach....if we really want to get well, we HAVE to face our own truth!  It definately ain't pretty and can be quite painful but the healing cannot start until we deal with our addiction head on with honesty and the realization that it is beyond our control! We need help from people like you Beach and I have ALWAYS appreciated your honesty and no BS approach even though I don't always like to hear it....deep down I know you are 100% right on the money!
Peace, Marcie

Hi there, just joined the forum and have been reading around the posts for a while now. I too am an addict with 6 years sober, and do much service work (although i tend not to talk about it too much outside of the rooms but thats anyone's choice). I try to speak at meetings at least once a month, which just makes my heart soar to see that I can finally contribute back to the addict in need. I have never heard of a speaker taking questions during a meeting, but thats kind of interesting I think, cause lots of people have a million questions when first getting clean. I know i sure did. I'm a very busy person, but hope to get on this forum as much as I can. I'm happy to help anyone who needs it and look forward to speaking with you guys..thanks

Good morning it is 5:45am here near detroit Michigan.........

I do a lot of volunteer work for N/A at the help line at the MSO headquarters and open speaker N/A meetings........most recently through H & I  i spend two days a week at Harbor Lite inpatient drug rehab of Mt. Clemens where I speak twice a week and organize N/A meetings while sitting in them as well...........I really enjoy it...with full time working and now taking two classes at the university of detroit mercy my time is really busy........I hve to take a couple of days of every week to get my rest and keep up on my homework........

In my profile I metnion a lot of this where I uploaded a pic at one of my seminars where I was presented with my 18 month Coin for clean time..........

Its also hard when your staring at text and not faces........I like to also take questions were I can really get personal with people........

My favorite place I ever spoke was at narconon because there are many parents and other family members with tears pouring down there faces trying to grasp the concept of how an addict thinks and why they make the insane decisions that they make..........

I was also an active addict for 37 years and I wasn't locked up in jail somewhere or in a detox or rehab I was defenately using...........

I just thought I would share a little bit about myself.............

Good Morning (5:25 am here)!

Thank you for your post stating that you realize the difference between speaking at seminars and speaking here. That was something I guess you hadn't thoght about. I didn't know you did that. Anyway, you said you were willing to adjust. That was a kind thing to say.

You have a great day!

God Bless, Bonnie

I just read a short time ago from someone ast medhelp who brought something to my attention that made a lot of sense.......
I have said that I do a lot of speaking and that is true in my profile here I was doing a seminar....
I was told that at these seminars and at the places that I speak very blunt honesty is required or I would be eaten up alive but here people are not ready for that.......I am not in front of basicly inmates at Harbor Lite inpatient drug rehab where many are court ordered........I thought about it and agree and will very much try to ajust......to get my point accross a little softer.........so to anyone here that I came on to strong I apoligize........

I'm with marcatj...we all..especially me..need you here. As long as one newbie listens and "gets" your advice..then all the bickering in the world is worth it. You can't put a price on helping someone get their life back...that's priceless. The few times that people have said I helped them makes all the time I spend on here typing posts worthwhile..and, I suspect that deep down you feel the same way...

That was a very respectable thing you said. People here need beach..just like they need you and ever other post on here. Even the most seemingly benign question can help someone else so much. Thanks for taking the high road. We're all better for having you and everyone else here..
