Now that you're on Subs, nope the big o'l OXY wouldn't do a thing for ya. It does sound like your Sub dose is fairly high. They started me at 16, then 8, and it wasn't until 4mg that I stopped feeling lethargic. At 4mg, sleep was normalized as well. Are you dosing once or twice aday? I got some good advice once from a Sub patient. He told me to dose first thing in the morning, second dose no later that 1pm(afternoon)and going to bed earlier. Once you get down to 4mg which is suprisingly very comfortable, you should only dose once daily, otherwise you are just "chasing". suboxone's mean half life lasts 24-36 hours, dosing once a day will regulate you and as you taper, ask the Dr. for some clonidine to take at night--this helps with sleep, anxiety, and that cooling feeling that comes at night that makes you want to dose. I had to w/d from Sub to Oxycodone for surgery, I was prescribed triple the dose I had been taking that led me to the Subs. They took about a week to start working and my body detoxed the Sub pretty violently even with the percs. Sub is Strong! It is still an opioid, but under a doc's care and a SLOW easy taper should let you down alot more gently than qhitting the full agonist short acting meds. Good luck.
Thanks for the responses everyone. Last night I took 10mg of ambien and I slept all night wihtout interruption for the first time in a while. I am coming off of a 240mg a da oxy habit. The subs have really helped. I still think about how wonderful a big ol oxy would feel but i know that would be a huge setback. Since today is day 8 I am going to cut down to 16-20mg of sub and cut down again next week. Its hard when doc is handing you 120 subs a month.
There are many people who take Suboxone that take some sort of benzo along with it. Most doctors advise against it, but there's no cardinal rule that says if your on Sub you can't take a benzo. No having said that, you need to be very careful to not take more than prescribed and more importantly not to mix it with alcohol. I myself am currently taking 4mg of sub/day with 2mg of an extended release benzo and have never had a problem. Everyone is different so our needs differ completely, for me I have an actual anxiety disorder. Im not addicted to the benzo, I try to just take it as needed for certain days. But the majority of Sub doc's dont allow their patients to be on any benzo, because there both CNS depressants and problems can arise when addicts get their hands on addictive medication. My own personal opinion would be to really try and lower your dose of suboxone and you might find a huge difference in your sleep. Not sure what your coming off but buprenorphine is a very strong synthetic opiate, so I just think the lower the dose that you can get by on is for the better. Take care, and if you have any more questions keep posting, or you can send me a message. Good Luck!!!
I was on Sub too and they gave me ambien to take with it. they just said no matter what dont drink alcohol with the Ambien.
I only take 1-2 mgs a day of sub......and have never had a problem taking ambien.
I am not a doctor though so i would be afraid to tell someone that it is ok.
I always have a headache the next day...after ambien while on suboxone.
