The MD would have to be looking for drugs in testing blood, urine...In early preg the risk is mainly developmetal ect in the latter parts of the preg I think the concern is more focused on the baby bein born addicted and suffering WD. IMO I took nothing I absolutely didn't need while preg. Some women need certain meds and the risk benefit of the med should be discussed w/the Rxing MD.All drugs have a pregnancy category I thik percocet is either a b or c??? Best is A worse is X. If the staff suspects abuse they may get CPS involved for example if she informs no one of her use then the baby shows symptoms of WD and tests +.....? It would be best to level w/her MD and taper off if possible.

Well, all I can do is tell you about my OWN experience. I have been taking painkillers for 3 years now. I just had my baby 4 months ago. During my first 3 months of pregnancy, I too was searching for whatever information I could. I was seeing a pain specialist and I told her first that I was pregnant. I was taking 15 mg oxycodone at the time and during my pregnancy she reduced them to the 10mg percs. She said to just keep her informed and to make sure I tell my OBGYN everything!! So I did, I let every doctor I saw, know about the pills I was taking. They all worked with me and told me to make sure I tell the delivering doctors as well. I went through my entire pregnancy taking 5-8 pills a day. We monitored the baby very closely. One dr. I saw told me my baby would definitely be addicted and that he would need to stay in the hospital under close watch for 5-7 days after delivery for his withdrawal. My pain dr, on the other hand told me, only in SOME cases that happens. And since I was not taking oxycontin, and was not taking more than 15 pills a day, she did not think that would happen. Well I delivered my baby, he had no signs of withdrawal whatso ever and was VERY healthy! THANK GOD! He is still very healthy and is very strong and his wieght and growth is at the top of the charts for his age. However, this is only my story. Tell your sister to PLEASE tell her drs about the pills. They can detect it through the blood work anyways. Its better that she is open with the dr, so that they know how to treat the baby if they need to. Thank God I had no complications and niether did my baby. But I was very open with my doctor. Please feel free to ask me any questions, and i can help with what i know in my own experience. Good luck!

so many questions, i am in a rush i will answer a few
they could take the baby, she should tell her doctor, if she has a prescription from a doctor for the pain pills, she is breaking no law
opiate use can cause developmental delay, most delays are not noticed until the kids start school
alot of cases i have seen, the baby gets diagnosed with a milk allergy and later the delivery crew finds out the baby is actually detoxing
so tell the hospital, do it behind her back if you have too
will it show up in a blood test? yes, but the doctor will have to order the test
oh well, my time is up, sorry
good luck
