Do you think we develop a tolerance to withdrawls? What do you think?

I was just sitting here at work browsing through the site and while I was reading I just had a thought that popped into my head....  I see a lot of posts about the WD's and quitting for the first or second time and it makes me remember the first time I went through withdrawls.  It was horrible!  Just as the posters on this site express everyday.

Some of you know my cycle.....  2 weeks on, 2 weeks off...  I go through my 30-day Rx in 2 weeks usually.  I know..... I know....  I'm working on that.  My wife now holds my pills so I'm doing a lot better with that.  Every now and then I can talk her out of an extra half but that's about it.  Shes tough!  :)

Anyway.... here's my question....  After being on this cycle for the last 4-5 months I have obviously went through withdrawls every 2 weeks.  However, the withdrawls are VERY minimal...  I always get a good nights sleep and I feel pretty good at least compared to my first experience with WD's.

Do you think that our bodies build a tolerance to withdrawl symptoms kinda like how we develop a tolerance to the drug itself?  Could it just be the frequency of how often I run outta meds?  It's just something that crossed my mind and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing where the WD's get easier everytime or if you think we might build a tolerance to it?

Just curious what your thoughts might be.....

There is no way a person builds a tolerance to withdrawals! Your brain needs at least 6 months for the opiate receptors to heal and produce natural serotonin the feel good chemical in the brain, Opiate addiction is a treatable chronic disease of the brain. It takes alternate medication or complete abstinence to get this disease into remission. If when you stop you suffer no withdrawals maybe your wife has you on a placebo and you are detoxed and may not even no it? Wouldn't that be great. Just a thought dont take me seriously. Anyway how long has it been since you suffered an episode of diarrhea, And you have never suffered from insomnia? We are all different when it comes to how our brains react to all drugs. ------------NOAH

The cycle probably makes it easier to do - not as much in system due to half life, etc. On the other hand, NO I sure dont think that we get any better at w/d's - we may become a little smarter about it - but if anything they get worse with practice.

hopsing....  you made me laugh!  I have been accused of being from outter space before!

It's good to see you have your sense of humor going today!  I'm glad ya posted.  :)

Thanks for your opinions guys and gals.... I guess I'm convinced now that it must just be the cycle that I'm on and for the record... It is still my goal to become totally independent of the pain meds.  In no way am I justifying my "over usage" or anything like that.  I appreciate your feedback!  Thanks!

NO! UNFORTUATALLY, NATURE IS NOT KIND IN THAT WAY.WHAT YOU TAKE,HOW LONG YOU TAKE IT DETERMINES THE DEGREE OF W/D'sWISH I COULD TELL YOU DIFFERENT. I THINK IT'S GOD'S WAY OF KEEPING YOU FROM ABUSING DRUGS AND/OR KILLING U'R SELF OVER TIME>>>> GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS!!

I wish that was true for me, i should be pain free by now with the 100's of times i had to withdraw. W/D's are like a headache and i never had a good headache. Maybe if you stay at the same dose and your body cycles the same each month, that may make it better for w/d's. Even early on for me when i took the same amount each month and run out early i believe the pills did more damage each time and my w/d's would get worse and take more time to heal. If yours are easier than thats a blessing.
