Can you go through withdrawals during tapering ?

I was taking 1-2 10/325 a day and now I'm tapering to one a day and my leg hurt? Diarria? And sweats I haven't even quit yet . I was gonna do 1 a day for a few days then half a day but if that's just making the withdrawl  longer maybe I should go cold turkey today ? Any ideas ?

I disagree totally. Yes I understand the routine. I broke that too. But 1/2 a pill does help. 1/4 pill does help. I know bc I did it. When I was in a huge amount of pain, those helped and took it away as I tapered down.

You can't tell someone what will or will not help or be their best way bc everyone is different.

When your dose is low, that smaller amount does what it needs to.

I agree with Keith. If that little amount is "helping" you, I think it's your mind playing games with you. I was on methadone maintenance for 8 years. But it was a small dose compared to others here..35-45 mgs a day. I tapered all the way down to 1.25 mgs before I stopped. I think it had become more of a routine for me than anything else at that point. But I would wake up and feel like I wa missing something. So this may sound corny or weird...but I always kept my pill bottle in my purse beside my bed or chair, so when I was done with the methadone, I replaced that pill bottle with a bottle full of different vitamins, and in the morning or afternoon I would get in my purse and do my usual thing...take a pill...but vitamins instead of methadone. Eventually, I was able to break that routine, but at the time, it helped me. I know that does sound strange, but I really do think you've just gotten into a habit or a routine since you're taking such a small dose...and if our minds can play tricks on us, well, then I think we can also play tricks on our minds! Lol. Good luck and I wish you the best!

99% of the folks here would give their 1st born to be taking 1 or 2 a day lol. Rather for pain or wd"s if 1 half helps its only in your mind.Time to jump off and start your new life.

You need to do what is right for you. Most here say jump jump. I couldn't do that. I need to function. So I tapered and chose my end to be when it was good for me. I had a long weekend so I could take that time to get through the first 3-4 days. Yes you will still feel mild wds but not like jumping. I say no matter your current dose your body wants it. Getting as low as I could worked for me.

So do what you need for yourself.

Hey there, i had my withdrawals on my taper, but no withdrawals when i jumped.
I got my energy back at the end of 5 months. But i was on subutex maintenance.
Subs are long and drawn out to recover from.
Because we are all diff, theres no saying when your energy will come back. Usually within a couple months or so people tend to have a better time.
You have to start exercising and keep to a strict healthy diet in order to heal faster. A good multi vitamin helps. But vitamins dont work overnight, they can take up to 4 weeks to absorb into your body properly.
Good luck : )

after a few months off of them you will be AMAZED at how much your pain will be decreased.  heck, you may even find you don't need motrin or tylenol.

opiates cause our pain to feel worse.  that is our brain's way of getting us to take more.

you will withdrawal by taking less.
look at it this way:
it is like ripping a band-aid off.  would you rather rip it off fast or do it really slow??
most would rather rip it off fast and get it over with.   that is where you are at right now.  just rip it off and get through the withdrawals.
they will last 3-5 days.  7 at the most.
if you keep tapering them, they will last weeks.

Thanks for the support I almost feel like I've been going though withdrawl for the time I've been taking them as days I'd only take 1 and none till next day these feelings would start . I never knew there even was a withdrawl from taking these until I seen so much media play on people having problems. I still have shoulder pain and back problems and my job is labor intense so I got used to taking them to get through the day - but now that there not perscribed toe I feel like an addict. No one ideally knows I take them it's my secret pain release but I think I might be able to just take aleve or tylonal and get the same pain relief just will loose the extra energy boost that gets me though the day . I glad I found some people to talk to that won't judge me. I hear how my friends and family talk about people in the media and if they knew I was taking them even only 1-2 a day I'd be looked at differently that's why I want to stop on my own.

i agree with the above posters.  get rid of the pills, cut off ALL SOURCES to get more and just stop.
at this point it will just mess with you mentally to taper.  it won't really help the physical withdrawals at all.
get cal/mag/zinc (3 in 1), B12 sublingual tablets, complex b vitamin, D3 as well as a good multi vitamin.

epsom salt for hot baths.  will help a lot with the restless legs
rub your legs down with icy hot and wrap them in ace bandages if they keep you from sleeping.
tonic water with quinine and bananas will help too

sleepy time tea, valarian root or other natural sleep aids
you may go a couple of days with little or no sleep

immodium for tummy issues

drink a lot of water.  getting dehydrated will make your symptoms 100 times worse

exercise. even if it is a walk around the block.

Hello and congrats on wanting to get clean! I agree with IBK, I would just get rid of the pills you have and go CT. You are already on such a low dose that by tapering you will just prolong what you have to go through anyway. Good luck to you :))

Yes you will go thru milder wd. You may want to slow it down. 1/2 then 1/4s etc. then 1.  Imodium will help. Hot showers or bats with Epson salts help the pain. Keep moving too. I found I hurt more when I was sitting or laying around for lengths of time.  It should even out though and your body will get used to the drop.

Hi & WElcome, That sure enough sounds like withdrawal to me. If you are only taking one pill you may as well jump at this point as you are only prolonging the process by tapering. Be sure that all of the pills have been disposed of to avoid temptation. Congrats on wanting to get clean!
