Clonidine side effects, anyone know?

Hi hi, I'm at the end of a weekish long taper (from oxy, Norco) and I've been taking a bit of clonidine to help,,, But I've noticed that if I take it too close together I get ringing in my ears! Anyone have that before?
I looked it up and there is a bunch of wierdo stuff that goes along with this med, which kinda creps me out, but it does seem to help.

I'm pretty sure its that and not detoxing...I'm sneezing my a@# off from detox (which my kids find halarious)

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback/expierence with clonidine.
thx....

Positive is good..a very good thing :) Glad to hear that..Try some progresso vegetable soups and ham and cheese sandwiches. I found them to be somewhat agreeable for me..And easy. Make a pot, put the extra in the fridge and then get little bits at a time..Once you get a few spoonfuls though, I believe you will find some of your appetite that doesn't seem to be there right now :)

It's a blood pressure med that helps w/WD. You should be careful when changing position ex sitting to standing...I'd try to see what ur b/p is doing on the med. It is also a med that needs to be tapered down if you are taking it w/any regularity to avoid b/p problems.

I have noticed - now that you mention it - that the clonidine does seem to be keeping me off the pot  I've got ImoD on hand just in case.
I can wrangel my kids on no sleep, but not being able to keep food in me just will NOT work!
Woke up feeling good today....well,  maybe good is a stretch.

I woke up feeling positive today. ( I think that's more important anyway!)

Thanks for being out there and understanding.
It really does help to feel that there are so many people out there that are understanding what I'm going thru!

Kids :) This is one time to be grateful they are around..Keeps your mind occupied in such a fashion the days go by quicker..What would we do without them!  (chuckles).

Just hang in there. The taper is going to work to your advantage. The clonidine will help with the wd's from here forward.

Make sure you have some immodium on hand though. You might get lucky and not get hit with fullblown wd's , but just in case you start having loose movements, take that at the first signs of it and it will help immensily.  As they say ,,"one day at a time". Before you know it, you will be looking back in a weeks time feeling blessed that you made the decision you did..David :)

Today was my last day of meds... well 4:30 this morning actaully, the doc said that I could take it a little while I was doing my taper - since I was only taking a 1/4 meds that  I had been taking. This was all over the phone, when I emailed him about the wierdo side-effect he emailed me back saying that I should use it only after I was done with my taper. So maybe its the combo of the stuff?  I donno.... I decided to "up and quit", as he said so we didn't get any face to face time to discuss it. (Mostly because when we'd talked about it in the past he'd write me big scripts....just in case! and you know they'd burn a hole in my purse in 2 days time.)
Feeling pretty ok - dragged my Mommyself along after the boys all day.
It's not fun, but its necessary.

I took this in the past when I was addicted to benzos and it gave me a very dry mouth that was really uncomfortable.

I was taking the clonidine for a short spell too. I've had an issue with a ringing type symptom in my ears but it was here before taking any clonidine. I "think" this ringing is a side effect of long term use of hydrocodone and oxycodone based meds..For 4 years now I've questioned my doctors about this yet have never really figured out a cause. All I can say is I never had this ring problem prior to my back surgery in 2005. It showed up a year later when I was taking hydrocodone on a regular basis so I'm pointing my finger at the med because I don;t know of anything else thats different in my life that it might bhave come from/

Clonidine from what my doctor told me was intended to help restabilize sleep during wd's by lowering blood pressure which in turn is suppose to reduce stress within one's system that contributes to the insomnia..

To answer your question though,,no, I have not experienced any oddball symptoms when clonidine is taken with pain meds.

I would like to point out though that the clonidine was prescribed and intended to help me out "after" I had stopped taking the pain meds, not while I still taking pain meds...And my daily dose was prescribed to be taken at bedtime.

You really should ask your doctor about it though. I'm just relaying my experience of what my doctor told me when he prescribed it. And sternly warned me not to take more than prescribed as it does lower one's blood pressure and if it lowers it too much, a person could put themself in a position where they could possibly have a stroke. He prescribed me 0.1 mg pills, and said I'd be ok with up to three at bedtime. I questioned him more about this as I take metropol 50mg for BP as well once a day. He indicated I was ok as long as I did not exceed that 0.3 mg dose he set as a max daily dose.

I have taken it and still do.  I have never had that side effect during detox or now!  I have heard of ears ringing during detox but not necessarily associated with clonidine.

It can cause your B/P to drop so I'd get that checked!
