Cold Turkey from Hydrocodone

I am so glad I found this forum.  I have been looking for one but all the ones I have found have been dated back to 2010 or even older!  I was on the hydrocodone bandwagon for almost 2 years.  Taking 1-2 a day.  Sometimes 3.  I know that is not a lot, but I came to realize that it is a problem.  This is my thrid time trying to detox but this time, I am determined. I am only on day 2, but I dont feel that bad....I hope it wont get worse.  You guys are wonderful with all the support.  I cant believe what a grip this has had on me.  I remember taking them once in awhile and then it turned into everyday.  I know I have to get better, I have a 2 year old daughter and she is my everything and my focus on getting better.  I have had panic attacks about my body shutting down due to taking those, I know I am being a lunatic, but I think that is what I needed.  My only fear, I have a dr appointment tomorrow for a bruised cartliege in my ribs, if they offer me something, what do I say?  I dont want it know I am/was an abuser, however, this pain I have *****.  Again, thank you all for the support.  God Bless

Good morning, I just read your whole thread! I have been clean for 6.5 months for I think the third time in the past 10 years. I recently had to have a surgery (I think two months ago) and I was prescribed Norco, and since I had the same surgery back in 2012, I KNEW I was going to be prescribed a narcotic pain reliever. I was so freaked out about getting cravings, and after taking one, I would want more, etc, I had myself so freaked out about it that I talked to my doctor and told him what dose, strength and how many to give me. lol. I was able to take 15 out of my 35, and threw the rest away. I took 8-10 Norco 10/325 a day (prescribed to me by my doctor) for almost 10 years...every single day, with the exception of in 2014 my son was born and I didn't take anything for 5 months after that with no withdrawals, no anxiety, no nothing. We all know there will come a time when we will be offered/prescribed pain killers from the doctor for things that are beyond our control, and sometimes, like in my case, they are needed, just be careful not to get sucked back into the cycle. I feel much better off of them, my pain is much more tolerable off of them, and knowing that I will not have to worry about facing a withdrawal when I run out is priceless! Did you ever do any aftercare? When did you last have a pill?

Had a slight set back last year....hurt my back and was put on norco.  However, I was able to be done with it no problem.  For 2017 I have decided I'm done and I'm just going to strictly use aleve or Mortin.

I am so glad you are doing well. When I came on this site to start my journey 2 weeks ago, yours was the first post I read. I hadn't even signed up on the site yet or made any comments. So, you were an inspiration to me, even though I didn't comment. Thanks. :)

I am so happy for you...it isn't easy but soooo worth it!  You are doing great girl!  Just keep your guard up.  It is easy to fall back into addiction when we think we have it beat.  Your positive attitude is a blessing to you and others that are following your story. YAHOO for you!

Ugh that sounds awful.  I'm at work today and it isnt too bad but its only day 1 lol day 1 is easy compared to whats ahead.  In Jan, when I lived in Hawaii and I knew I was moving to CA, I had 5 weeks off before I went back to work and was going to use those 5 weeks to get off this and get better, but I messed it up and did just the opposite.  My fault.  So here I am but I'm thankful I can get a few days off of work.

Thank you all.  I know and that's what scares me.  My daughter was born via c section and I was prescribed norcos back in November of 2012 and remember only taking them for a week and never touching them again.  It's sad that back in July of 2013 I had them for back issue and then some emotional problems happened, and I took them to numb myself.  I never thought I'd be addicted to anything...well except coffee lol.   This forum is a wonderful place and I thank you all for all the wonderful support

I am so happy for you that you did it now before the problem became worse.. which is what addiction does..get worse.  Remember this time, because you will be faced with a situation in life where pain killers will be offered to you.. a trip to the ER and just taking one pill will set off a craving and it does not take long before you are in a worse situation.. Sorry to sound so negative, but the disease of addiciton is a very horrible, seductive disease.. it catches you off guard, so always beware..... and congratulations for this wise decision.

DAY 9 PARTY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!  The mood swings are still kind there but they are getting better....now I dont get as crabby as much, but I do burst into tears over things...even before this, I was never a big crier over some things but good grief!  I can even watch an ADT commercial without crying!  But I know this is part of it and I am looking at as this another "clean out", if you will.  I'm cleaning myself out from mental and emotional anguish I caused on myself.  This to shall pass.
