Have been using prescribed pain med 10-325 percocet 6 to 10 daily and 10mg Oxycodone 6 daily for last year built up  from 3 to 4 years lower doses. Arthritis, hips and knees replaced but now want to be drug free. Really looking for quickest/best way to detox and get life back to normal. Have full time job, but afraid if this doesn't stop will be risking  work and family life.

Oh...I'm not saying that cold turkey CANT be done from that amount. I'm just suggesting tapering down a little FIRST.  Only a suggestion...not an order.

Well I came off 12 10mg oxys (10/325 Percocet/oxycodone, all the same drug) cold turkey and lived to tell the tale. Its tough but doable. If you have no underlying medical issues other than the total joint replacements this could be a good option.  Let your doctor know and get his opinion. Most patients have complete relief from pain in the joints once they have healed from surgery.

Hi there- There's only one form of cold turkey, as far as I know...I'm not sure if you should cold turkey just yet with the amount of Oxy you're taking. Approx 16 pills per day/ 160 mg is a lot. Ask the doctor to help you taper down a little first.

Thank you for your reply and help. Seeing my Dr. in two days, afraid tapering off might take to long. Hoping to try some form of cold turkey while I still have the strong desire.

Hi & Welcome..Unfortunately there is no quick fix.
I would go to your DR and be honest and tell him you would like to taper off. Then you will have to give them to some one you trust to hand them out to you..If we have them in our hands,  then the pleasure (midbrain) part of the Brain will keep thinking and thinking of every excuse in the world for more. One will lead to 10000000.
The DR can give you a light BP med that they use alot for opiate w/ds. This med just slows the  heart down a bit so it will not over pump. Then everything else slows down a bit like the Anxiety. At night is a good time to take that med other wise you will feel sluggish..One thing is that working is good. It keeps your mind from thinking about how you feel. Maybe at least take 3-4 days off if you can, but still try to stay busy like going to meetings.
Right now I would drink LOTS of water and find good things to add to the water too, like lemon. Get some good vit/min and take them daily. You will find out which vit/min help with energy and the ones that help relax you..Magnesium is a great detoxer. I could go on & on about the vit/min but I will wait until you get down and are going through detox. Make sure you eat very Healthy..This way you get your vit/min too..The big thing is that you want to build up a strong system, so it will help in ridding these toxins.
SUPPORT is the key in this RECOVERY..The detox will be over soon but it is fighting to stay clean that takes all you got. Try to get to some meetings. Any outside support will help. You will not feel alone in this if you hit those meetings. You can also express some of your deep feeling as well.
I do wish you the best and hope you can find a OTC med for your pain.
I thought back in 2012 I had it all..My pain was all over the place. Once I got clean, I now have no pain. It did take many months for my brain to balance back so that the body would feel fine too.
Be Safe!
Bless
