I was on Meth for 10 years. The last 2 years of the 10 I injected it .
HIt bottom so many times. I walked away 4 years ago,and never looked back.
The years of abuse took a big toll on my body. I was introduced to pain pills boy what
a mistake that was.
It has been a battle fighting this. I went cold turkey thought I went to hell .

You are right..It gives dopamine surges..That is in the Pleasure Part of the Brain..The Survival Part..That is why you can become addicted to many things..It is a rush of pleasure..Ya meetings are good..I could not do it alone.
It says Dopamine purpose is to encourage survival instincts like eating, water, sex..Addictive Drugs/Alcohol/Nicotine craves this like there lives depend on it..

This is a lot more physical as well as mental than other drugs. It's a rough withdrawl and can take quite a while for everything to balance back out.

I thought Meth released high levels of dopamine that's why I always chase the high. This is so different.

I am currently buying 10 mg tabs and percs about 4or 5 a day .
Im a waitress at a busy diner. It's like everyone one is on them to get thru the shift. Its so easy to get them. I don't have ins where I work .
My question is the years of meth abuse do you think it could of done a lot of damage from overworking myself for 10 yrs . I worked on a Dairy for 16 years.

Hi & Welcome..No it is not in your head..It is your body detoxing out the poisons..It becomes a physical & mental detox..The brain gets really unbalanced that involves many Nero-Transmitters.I too had done many substances through out my life and the w/ds from the opiates was a whole other ball game..Even the Methadone was a big bad beast!! If you have been here before and went on subbing one drug for another have you considered going to some meetings..Even AA or NA is good..This Journey into our recovery can not be walked alone..try to cut all sources and stay away from user friends.Once we become addicts this is a very serious disease and is not to be dealt with lightly..OK Keep on pushing in the right direction..You will reap the rewards in the Long Run..
Bless

It is not all in your head my friend. Opiates bind to our dopamine receptors in the brain. That is the 'pleasure center'. Eventually our body stops making the dopamine because it doesn't need it  anymore, the opiates are doing all the work. When you stop taking the opiates, the brain and body freak out. It is a totally different withdrawl process than methamphetamines. Depending on length and amount of use and drug of choice, withdtrawls will usually peak around 4 days to 1 week. If you are on methadone it takes quite a bit longer because it is synthetic. Congratulations on making the decision to taper down and get off the pills. If you could give us a little more info on your drug of choice and length of use, usual dose, we can help you more.
