After the withdrawals this time, I swear, I will take them as directed and will let my kids keep count anytime they want to, so they know I'm not abusing them. I have been reading so many posts on here and it really does help to know so many people are struggling with the same thing. I am really hoping the counseling will help also. Thank you for everyone's responses
I'm not,so sure you're addicted as much as you are just dependent on these meds. It's a difficult situation because of the chronic pain and THAT will get you back to the pills. I'm not sure that's the wrong thing for you.
Do you think you can take them on a schedule? That's how they work the best. I agree about your daughter handing them out to you. No one can judge another persons' pain level.
Pain management is a viable option for you and you might just do better.
My dr told me last time I went to him, that probably they will have to put me on pain management, since there is nothing else they can do to fix my back. I really don't want my daughter to have to hand me my meds. She said she won't give me any unless she thinks I need them. How in the heck is that going to work? I've always had such a great relationship with her and don't want to ruin it over a damn pill, I hate myself for this!
Well, my doctor kind of knew there was an issue because I was asking for early refills. I told her that I was taking way too much of my pain medication! She was very nice and supportive! She gave me a different anti-inflammatory to take for my shoulder pain! She told me to get back into physical therapy, and bottom line is I don't get any more automatic refills on pain pills! If I ever have to take prescription pain pills again she will strictly monitor it! It really was the best thing I ever did! I hope you try it! All the best!!
What did your dr say to you and how did he continue to help you?
Talk to your doctor! Tell him/her all of this! You will feel so much better getting this off of your chest! I think your doctor will be supportive and help you with a solution! Getting mental health support is key also! Don't be afraid, you can do this! I had to tell my doctor and it was the very best thing I did! Take care!
I have no pain meds at all. I want to be off of them for good. But, the devil In my head is still letting me know that I need them. I went through 8 years of back pain before I started with hydros. I have tried everything else that is OTC, just didn't help me. I've always been the sole supporter for my kids when they were growing up and have been a strong woman. This is one situation I don't know how to handle.
Tell your doc. That's the first thing to do. If you have legit pain, and you truly want to stop, or at least use as directed, then you have to tell your doc all.
Hi there and welcome! I would go to your doctors appt and tell your doctor all of this! Ask for alternatives for pain management! Getting mental health support is great to start dealing with those issues that you covered up with the pain pills! I completely understand! You are on day 6 without the pills! The energy will return. Make sure you are taking vitamins, and drink some high protein drinks like Ensure! They really helped with the fatigue! Also the more you get up and move, the better you will feel! You should be feeling better each day! You have done very well, now it's time to honestly talk to your doctor! I think you will feel so much better if you do! I know I did! Take care and I wish you all the best! Keep posting for support!
I'm not sure what you're asking. You don't want to get the refill but you're going to take the meds as directed now? Do you have some meds at home?
It's hard to do that once you've been increasing the doses but you may need to try just so you know...
If you really don't want a refill you need to call the doctor and tell him what you're doing. Let us know how we can help.
