Well Kudos to you!! You are still so young! I have been struggling with Methadone for about 10 years now, I am 30 yrs old, and took the last year to taper from 15mg all the way to 2 mg and I jumped! I am 22 days clean today & over my last 10 years, this detox was NOTHING like I have gone thru cold turkeying off of 100 mg or even 20mg. The way you taper, along with your attitude & want to wanna change I believe, plays a huge part in recovery. You are lucky to get out, it is tough, but just remember how great it is to not depend on anything! I have heard that meetings/aftercare helps out alot with dealing with cravings, you should look them up in your area!

hi.im new to this site. a bit on myself. when i was 13 years old, never having used any sort of drugs before, i guess i jumped right into the deep end pretty quick, started off sniffing 30mg hydromorphs.started doing so daily from that moment forth.moved cities a year later, and could not get hydromorphs but was very able to get oxycontins,40mg oxycontin pills to be exact.started sniffing those everyday from 3-5 40mg pills a day.of course. as any drug addict knows, eventually what use to give you your fix,get you off, whatever, doesnt work forever, so your tolerance builds.by the time i was 16-17 years old, i was using 7-10 80mg pills per day.
days with the pills were great. was able to function, days without pills, well im sure as most of you know,if there was a rope handy, you would have found a way to hang yourself. atleast thats what i wanted to do to myself EVERY single time i went into withdrawl.
a few weeks before my 20th birthday, i moved back to the city where i originally started using.continued using for a few months.money being low, i was desperate to try anything just to stay from withdrawl. thats when i started the methadone treatment.started at 15mg,went up to 20, then 25, then finally up to 40mg of methadone.now,40mg of methadone is hardly anything compared to people that are in and around the 100mg mark but anyways i stopped at 40mgs.stayed at 40mgs for a year and a half.me living in toronto and my girlfriend in DC.i was about to be moving there and i knew they dont have free health care there and it would cost an arm and a leg to get treatment there.so 5 weeks i went from 40mg of methadone down to 7mg.i can tell you, being on such a low dose such as 40mg, I PERSONALLY never had an issue dropping 5-7mg a week.did not affect me till i got down to about 15mg,had a bit of sweats and restlessness but had to keep reminding myself that its either putting up with that is NOTHING compared to the full withdrawl i have experienced!
finally down to 7mg of methadone. i asked my doctor if he could send me with a weeks carries just to help fight the withdrawl once i am off the program. and he did. sent me with 6 carries at 10mgs each.
i made those last me 3 weeks.
by the time i was done, i had lowered myself down to about 0.5mgs a day.
and yes the first couple weeks coming off the methadone was a little rough, but it was tolerable.nothing like full out withdrawl!
now i got off methadone 3 months ago.i cant lie, i may be fixed physically but mentally, i still have the cravings, maybe not as much and not as strong, but the cravings are still there. so right now, i am trying my best to stay sober, cause i would rather die then have to go through another day of withdrawl, or hunting the city looking for drugs or whatever.so basically, im here to say, methadone does what its suppose to do, it will help you beat that monkey on your back, but at the end of the day it really all comes down to how bad you really want to kick the addiction.
im taking it not even day by day but minute by minute.
im really just proud that i can say i beat my addiction and was hoping maybe my story might help someone else somehow.
and i may be young, im turning 22 next month, was addicted to pain killers for 7 years, but i know the struggle, pain happiness and heartache of just like any other drug addict.
i hope my story helps atleast someone.may god bless you all in your journey and may he find you to the path of recovery!

That's good you got some sleep! Definitley makes a difference on how you feel, make sure you are feeding your body your nutrients/supplements, they will help. SO glad things are looking up for you!! I've heard of the "foggy" head, but I never really felt that. My detox taper was super slow & I began my supplements about a week before I jumped, so my withdrawls were minimal. As for anxiety, L-Theanine is a good supplement, and L-Tyrosine helps support healthy glandular function, also valerian root & passion flower may help you relax. The energy takes a while, B12 & a B vitamin complex should help!
