Dextromethorphan????

Can someone tell me about the effectivness of Dextromethorphan for Opiate Withdrawel. I never see anyone mention it. Either good or bad.

Should I stop taking it???? Why or why not?

Dextromethorphan (DM), a structural analog of morphine and codeine, has been widely used as a cough suppressant for more than 40 years. DM is not itself a potent analgesic, but it has been reported to enhance analgesia produced by morphine and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Although DM is considered to be nonaddictive, it has been reported to reduce morphine tolerance in rats and to be useful in helping addicted subjects to withdraw from heroin.

My wife is a recovering alcoholic and made that known to her doctor.  She got sick a while back with a bad chest cold and he gave her that as a script.  When I did some research before having it filled it made me upset that he would prescribe this.  

That just goes to show you that you have to take responsibility for your addiction.  It really wasn't his fault, he we just doing his job.


As for opiate w/d.  I can't see it helping much.  

I'm no doctor, only my opinion.

Dextromethorphan as in Robitussin DM. If you can get it OTC, I don't know if it could hurt that much. Don't know if it would help either.

this is gonna sound weird but i know i read somewhere that cough syrup such as robitussion can help with  heroin withdrawl.. as an old junkie I would of done about anything.. i think I remember it helping.. it knocked me out of course..

I have been using a little over the counter Robitussen for my w/d's. I really think it helps me a little bit. I find that it is helping with my sleep. This could just be me and I am just giving you my experience in the last few days. The only reason I used it was because the w/d's give me a cough and dryness in my throat. Best of Luck

The day I have not been able to keep to my taper schedule have been days I did not take the Dextromethorphan (Robotussin DM)... I first I did not make the connection but now that I think about it I am not sure  I have been taking a tablespoon every other hour. I know some people drink a whole bottle or two to get hight but that is not what I am talking about here.

Is this a worth while addition to the Thomas Recipie??

Could a few of you try it please and let me know what you think? Maybe we coud do our own case study and post the results???
