Does Suboxone affect the reproductive system?

Hello,

I am a 35 year old mother of two young children. After my youngest was born I became addicted to oxycontin. I spent two years in addiction and finally got onto suboxone. I've tapered down to 4 mgs and would like to continue to taper until I'm off it altogether in the near future. I would also like to have one more child once I get off suboxone.

The question I have is how does opiate use/suboxone affect the reproductive system? Can it do damage? The reason why I ask is that today I went in for a routine ultrasound and the ultrasound technician asked me a couple odd questions. First if I cramp or bleed excessively and second if I'm on birth control or hormones.. I"m not. I asked if anything was wrong and she said "I dont *think" so"--(she emphasized the word "think") so now I'm worried. I have to wait a week to find out anything and I really am worried that either my present suboxone use or previous oxy abuse might have some way caused problems with my reproductive system. Does anyone know the answer? I'd really appreciate it. I'm worried and scouring the internet trying to find answers but so far have come up with nothing.

Well, as much as I want to discourage opiate abuse, opiates are natural substances, and although they are highly addictive, and can cause a baby to be born with a "habit", there seems to be no conclusive evidence that they cause probems with the reproductive system per se. Do get off the opiate before you decide to conceive. You've got to just "stop" and endure the few weeks of discomfort, muscle pain and irritability.
