Question about Klonopin

I did decide to go with my doctors advice and take the lexapro once daily and klonopin as needed up to three times a day at .5 mgs. My blood pressure has gone down from 160/108 to 138/88.  When I first became addicted to opiates five years ago they helped with pain, but gave me a euphoric feeling that I wanted more of.  I have gone through that addiction and know what the warning signs are of becomming addicted.  My wife has the klonopin and gives me two a day to take with me to work. I usually do take one a day and sometimes two, but I do not get a euphoric feeling from them and they help with my anxiety, but I do not want to take more than what is prescribed or even the full amount because it makes me feel exhausted.  I am not trying to say that I am immune to becomming addicted, I just want to know what some of the warning signs of being addicted to benzos are and what changes in the way they make you feel to become dependent.  I will be seeing the doctor in a couple of weeks and woud like to let him know if I am showing signs of being addicted.  If anyone has any experience in this area please let me know because I do not want to go through the hell that came from hydrocodone addiction.  Thank you.

Hi,

i had never seen one either before asking for their help and i was a little nervous but i was feeling so down with anxiety and have started having those panic attacks that i was ready to do whatever they told me. I found one therapist specialised on addiction and there i went. I would think that Cognitive Behavioural therapy is the most practised now relating anxiety issues. You could google it and find some information to ease yourself before going for the first time (and better explained ) . The most usual therapy starts with breathing techniques and relaxing techniques, you'll learn about our fears and emotions and how they can take over us if not dealt properly and the point is to learn how to deal with them  . This is the reason i said that we can't rely on the pills when talking about anxiety and stress because we are not learning how to cope with them by our own. I put all my faith on my therapist and followed all her suggestions without questioning them and i can tell you that after 2/3 months i was feeling much better. I'm still working with my addiction problems too. It's very important that you feel confortable with the person so if you don't like him/her, find another one, ok ?

about insurance coverage, i'm afraid i can't give you any information as i'm out of your system and don't know how it works. But i'm sure some one can tell you about it here ..

What type of therapist would be one I should go to?  Are there different types?  I am sorry, but I have never seen one before.  Do they accept medical insurance such as BCBS?

Hi, Ksc :)

My signs would be if I've started relying just  on the pills to have my anxiety under control .If i were you i would also be taking the right steps not to depend on them with your anxiety issue. The therapy ( CBT ) would be the step to take while you're being helped by the meds. We are very awared of the dangers but also that anxiety is something to be taken care so as i told you some days ago with therapy i have mine under control...it takes some time to start working but it worked for me. What i believe doesn't work well with anxiety is leaving behind the process of addressing the reasons and our way of controlling those issues and how we react to them.

i would say try the therapy too , ksc. :)

Welcome....the signs are similar: a feeling that you want to experience more of whether it's euphoria or relaxation.Benzos usually mellow you waayy out, hence you being exhausted if you take too many. They can also cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure and slow your heartbet. It's good of your wife to monitor your meds i that fashipon...I would say to continue that.If the medication is workng (doing what it was perscribed to do),which it sounds like it is,let your doctor know.Keep us posted and welcome again!~Anne
