Drug free 7 months

It has been 7 months 7 days since I used Valium and oxycontins. It has been 8 months since I used methadone and MScontin. I was addicted to Valium, oxy, and methadone. All my drugs were prescribed by very bad doctors through Kaiser healthplan. They are drug pushers. I quit all of them in Sept of 2014 cold turkey. I had to spend 4 days in Hospital then 28 days in rehab. That whole month is a blur. Then for another 6 months it was like an endurance marathon. The anxiety, lack of sleep, bladdder issues shaking, fear and a myriad of other symtoms due to withdrawals were horrendous. The Valium is the hardest drug to kick. The withdrawals still come in waves at 7 months but much lighter. My life is getting so much better now.  I sleep, eat and feel better. The anxiety is barely noticeable. I can do almost all the things I use to do. Sleep isn't great but SOOOO much better. I can listen to all kinds of music and watch all kinds of movies. I can eat again. I can feel love and joy once again. I worked very hard to recover. I still can't believe what I went through and for how long it lasts. I surrived. You can too. My question is what are you doing for your recovery? Along the way I learned many tools and used them every day to help me heal. I now have serenity in my life that I did not have even before the drug use. I am grateful for my life.

NA is awesome. I found a sponsor right away. The friendships I have made are priceless. I went everyday sometimes twice a day for 6 months because the withdrawals were so hard. I do not have a desire to use because I never want to go through the torture of withdrawals again. Glad to hear you are doing well. Stay in touch.

Congrats on your clean time!!!  You worked hard for this.  I use NA for my aftercare.  I will be adding in Alanon here shortly due to a family member who is struggling.

Very Nice Post!!
I came off of a cocktail of meds too, and one being Methadone and a Benzo Plus.
You told it just like it was for me. I came clean in 2012 and my brain did not balance back for at least 2 yrs. Of course it is due to using since I was 14 and drinking off and on. I just turned 59 Sat and for the Life of me I have no clue where those yrs went.
Hang in! Very proud of your success.
Bless

Congragulations to you on 7 months as this is a great feat!  You should be very proud of yourself.
You asked in your post what people are doing for their recovery....I, personally, attend N/A.  In the beginning I did the 90/90 as to immerse my brain in positive ideas and hope.  There are a multitude of other programs, such as SMART recovery, A/A, private counselor, etc....  IMO this is a very important part of STAYING clean. I believe it's true, getting clean was the easy part (believe it or not) staying clean is the hard part.  I chose N/A to learn about myself once the drugs were removed....because I was still left with me and my "addict" way of thinking.  So far I have been clean for 16 monhs, I attend 3 meetings a week and a book study that Im finding extremely helpful b/c it cuts through the ********.
Whatever you find that works for you is better than doing nothing.  Give different things a try....when I first got to N/A I had gone in with the idea that I didn't know if it was for me, so I'd give it a try and if I thought it would be helpful I would stay, if not, what am I out?  Nothing....
