Fentanyl Toxicity kills 17 year old @ daughters school

A 17 year old boy put 2 fentanyl (morphine) patches on over the weekend and never woke up Sunday night.  Even though I did not know this boy, my heart is so broken....this guy was on the football team, seemed like a super happy person that had no intention of dying.
It is so scary to know what we know and see the road that so many kids are going down.  My daughter is only 14 and I worry about these influences as I am certain all of you do.
In this area, the number of people addicted to opiates is staggering.  Steven and I are both so thankful to have made it past this because there are not alot of success stories around here.
Thanks to all of you who have made our journey easier...we love you guys.

not only is it the medicine cabinets it is also the left over drugs when someone dies. I have had my mother who died of cancer left behind were to full bottles of liquid morphine, my mother in law a full bottle of liquid vicoden and my sissy 3 boxes of fentynal patches, There was know accountability for the very powerful drugs after they died, VERY scary

I am with you, I would not dare administer vicodin to my 8yr.old and it bothers me that a Dr. would....
I guess you can tell I am not a big fan of Dr.'s..

The thing is that it is not "street drugs" anymore. It is kids raiding parents and grandparents medicine cabinets. My daughter was 8 and the Dr. gave her Vicoden 5mg. and I never gave it to her. That is just crazy to me!!!!

The worst, most illicit drug dealers pushers are the doctors and the pharmaceutical companies....within an hour of TV...we saw like 12 commercials for new rx's....it really pisses me off

That boys father spoke at the school yesterday...how sad is that?  He spoke to an auditorium full of kids who knew what happened to his son and I hope it scares the hell out of all of them.
I would like to speak to kids about the dangers of drugs...I remember the people who spoke when I was in school about things of that nature and I really believe we, as students, disregarded everything that was said.  But, we did not lose a classmate either...that should speak loudly.

i really believe that more drugs and pills are being used more than ever, it's so sad about that boy, his whole life ahead of him too. i really think there needs to be more awareness raised about drugs in our schools because of the growing problems. drugs are destroying so many families and it keeps getting worse. i want to go to high schools and try to raise awareness about drugs. kids nowadays are starting when they are 14, it's crazy.
