Advice on Vicodin withdrawal

I started taking vicodin 6 yrs ago for neck pain. I was taking 1 pill a day for about the first 2 yrs or so.  Anyway I have been taking it since and now my Dr. has me taking Vicodin ES 3 times a day and I've been at this dose for over a year. I know I am getting dependent on it and I'm also an alcoholic but have not use alcohol for 14 months.  Im in the AA program and feel like im not sober even if my doctor has me on it.  I tried to quit about 2 months ago and the withdrawals I started to get was a bad headache and my pain was coming back but was bearable.  Could someone please give me some advice as to how bad you think my withdrawals will be if I quit taking it cuz im just tired of this crap all of the time.  I am 50 yrs old and its scary to think i have to depend on it.  Any help would be appreciated and the best way to detox whether it should be ct or just cutting back.  Thanks for this forum it is great.

I really want to quit and don't think I can without advice.

Hello!  Everyone is different about what works for them but for me I just did it cold Turkey.  Still having some withdrawl symptoms but soooo much better now.  I did not want any temptation staring me in the face.
I also have prescription for Vicoden then my tolerence went up so the surgeon put me on Norco its stronger then Vicoden.

Whatever you decide you have a great place here to talk to people who are going or have gone through what you have.

STAY STRONG  You might want to start a diary and maybe a list of the reasons why you are quitting and put it somewhere you can read it often.
