[Miss Heidi]

I have learned so much since I  found this forum.  It's nice to know that I'm not the only one.  I think it's something genetic that we were born with, or perhaps without.  

I have 3 different Dr's, Oncologist, Psychiatrist and Internal Medicine.  I'm on so much medication I don't know how I even function.  I'm on:

Prozac
Elavil
Ativan
2 blood pressure meds
"water pill"
Thyroid pill
Premarin
Ambien
Gleevec (for leukemia)
Vicodin

I'm 69 yrs old and live alone with my doggie.  My son lives in Calif. and wants me to move there so am thinking it may be a good idea.  He's all the family I have left.

In 1999 my Oncologist said I had 3-5 yrs to live but I'm a fighter and have a lot of faith.  I want to live the rest of my life to the fullest and not be addicted to anything.

I've decided that I'm going to ween myself off the Vicodin little by little instead of going "cold turkey."  It does nothing for my pain and I get no "high" from it either.  I've started taking 600 mg of motrin and it helps.

Welcome to the forum and congratualtions on your decision to get off the vicodin.   Please look up at the far right corner of this page in the search box and type in the "Thomas Recipe".  This is a list of vitamins and amino acids that will help you feel better during and after withdrawals.
Best of luck to you and it sounds like you have a great son who is on your side.  I live in California too, San Diego, actually.

Definitely come out here to California!!! We need more nice people!  The weather is nice and your son is here too.... he wants to be close to you.  Make a very long taper to be sure.  Some people, like myself are not capable of tapering but please be strong and do it for your life.... these pills are no joke.

I'll be praying for you too Miss Heidi. Please, be on the lookout for withdrawal symptoms. Tapering seems like a great idea. I also think it's a great idea to move to Cali. Discuss what you're doing with your son, he can be a great source of support. Also, you may want to let your docs in o what you're doing. Vicodin WD's are rarely life threatening, but some of the drugs you've listed can be dangerous if you go cold turkey. Remember to post here if you have any specific questions, or need some support.
