Pain is going to come and go when you first decide to get off the pain killers. And as hard as it's going to seem to get off of them completely, like taking just a little here and there at the first signs of pain, you have to keep in mind that some people lose control with that once in a while pill hitting the tip of their tongue, followed by a drink of water. It happened to me. And while I have the upmost respect for you right now, I want you to know that I'm thinking of you right now -- because this is a battle you're fighting right now. A battle for your life, and getting yourself back to where you used to be before the prescriptions, doctors, pills came into the picture.

Keep your head up, keep posting -- and PLEASE try to stay away as much as you can from taking anymore pills. Your body has just started to get used to them not being in your system anymore. You're not going to go right back to square one, like others here have stated, but just be careful, and know that we are all here for you no matter what.

No I cant imagine one would put u back to square one. But be careful its a slippery slope! Just take it as a little bump in the road and keep on being strong. Back pain is horrible but its not gonna kill u! lol What did your doc end up calling in? Has it worked? Hope your back gets better soon.

Dr can't see me 4 a week but called me in something 2 take til I get 2 c her. She promised its non narcotic n is not addictive. My mom gave me 2 loratab 5mg pills last night cause I was in so much pain. I took half b4 bed n half this am.did I screw up doing that but was dying it felt like. Gonna give the other 1 back 2 her thus evening when she gets off work. Plz let me no if I'm a failure for giving into the pain! I'm beating myself over this. Does that mean I won't have 3 weeks tomorroW n have 2 start over again. Thoughts on this plz

Ummmmm........that's true!  There is a headache powder that I take that works wonders most of the time and it has an anti inflammatory and tylenol and caffeine.  Totally ok to take together.  Now, I would do that for 20 days in a row or anything, but it's totally fine to see if it helps.  Really, if it's that bad, a doc needs to see you anyway, right?

Ashelen...

Actually Tylenol and Ib can be mixed. One leaves the body throught your kidney the other throough your liver. I have been told by several doctors and surgeons that is fine for pain or high fevers. Ususally the first dose is taken together and then staggered. There are several otc meds that have both tylenol and ib in their formulations most even throw in caffeine. I wouldnt give medecine advice unless I was 100% certain. I dont reccommend taking this every day....but for pain once in awhile it is fine.

Hey honey!  I'm sorry you're having a bad day.  You are doing stuff that should help.  Soaking, OTC stuff, heating pad.  If the flexeril helped and kept you from taking something else, great.  But I wouldn't get in the habit of taking that kind of thing.  Just watching out for ya...............self medication is bad for all of us!!!

I'm glad it's better!!! :)

I also have a bad bad back, I gave in on day 28 and I was so sorry that I did it. I went  to the Drs and I had some back injections and now I still have back pain but two buffered asprin do the trick. Don't give in, it set me back 2 days. I know that some of what you are feeling is rebound pain, same as mine was. I pray you don't give in, I believe in asprin, as a tech I can tell you that plain old asprin is as good or better than any of the newer things.
good luck and prayers to you.

How about excedrin?  It's considered one of the stronger OTC pain meds - maybe that would help?  And yes it's very possible (likely?) that it's still rebound pain - mine went on for quite a bit (month or so) so keep up with the bath's and the OTC stuff and it should start to help you soon.  Right now your brain is trying to "trick" you into thinking you can't live without pain without the narcotics (WRONG!) so remind yourself of that in those tough moments.  :)

Its the same pain I've had just soooo much worse. If it is rebound pain how long will this last? My craving 4 the loratab has passed but still wish I had something that would help.

And don't forget about rebound pain - that can last for a bit unti you're able to naturally fight off a good part of that pain.

Is this the same pain you've had in the past? Or does it feel new/different?   Usually, there's SOME relief with heat and OTC's...What do you think?

Sorry kinda in a hurry but do NOT mix tylenol and ibuprofen - sometimes it is mixed in a post-operative setting but it is dangerous and can blow out your kidneys. ibuprofen by itself is your best bet, in my experience, but try epsom salts in a hot bath. hope you feel better soon - I know how bad back pain is :-(

I have lower back often. Take the 800 ib and two tylenol. Use a thermacare heat wrap. Slow stretching helps too. Good luck!

The tub is a great idea, I know electricity + water is VERY dangerous, but if u have a mp3 player u could have with you, and just jam to ur favorite tunes, in the hottest water u can take, not only will the soak help but the music will help distract you. Just takes time, but we CAN make it through this.

Stay strong, keep that chin up :)

Try a super HOT shower or a bath with epsom salts - that will help with your pain and also the anxiety that comes with the craving.  Give it 30 minutes and you'll see - the craving will pass!  Remember, recovery isn't going to happen in a few weeks (we'll be recovering addicts for life but it does get so much easier with time), and don't get me wrong, 19 days is WONDERFUL and CONGRATS, but just keep your expectations in check and stay realistic.  It will get better I promise you that.  :)

Don't give in!!!! Have you done anything too strenuous in the last few days that could have caused this pain?  If not just try hard tO ignore it for now, if it doesn't lessen after some OTC pain relief meds.  Try doing some light streches on the affected areas, I was in immense pain last night I was able to tolerate it a little easier after some good streching.

Hope you get to feeling better!! Good luck
