Has anyone detoxed from clonidine after opiate detox?

I just went through a usual Methadone detox.  The Doc had me on clonidine the whole time and started a taper around day 40.  after 2 days without the clonidine I felt like I was kick'n Heroin again.  I had extreme RLS, vomiting, Chills, no sleep. Extremely bad WD symptoms.  I was in treatment for 29 days and started kick'n about 9 days before that.  I went to the hospital and was told that I was detoxing from the clonidine.  I had no idea.  They put me back on .2 a day but I still feel bad.  Does anyone have personal experience with this and can give me a real heads up on what it's going to be like, how long, and a good way to taper because I think most doctors don't know what the hell their talking about.  Personal experience anyone?

You sound great today!!!  I definitely don't think it's the Clonidine at all ... the only real worry with that is some rebound hypertension but you're still on it so it must be the benzo and methadone.

This time you're super aware of what you let your guard down on, right?  So you need to set up a lot of supports for yourself.  This is a time where you need to focus on your recovery.  You will get great support here but you also need to set up a lot of it in real life, too.

I'm glad you're okay.  What an awful way to feel to take that much of a med.  You must have been in a terrible spot.  Shame on these doctors who are not monitoring their patients properly!

Just think, every time you post you have the potential to be helping someone else.  Without even knowing it, someone reading your words may make a big positive change in their life.  You probably won't ever find a better "high" than that I imagine.

Definitely check out the Thomas recipe and listen to all those who've gone through the benzo and methadone withdrawals and what helped for them.  May not take all the symptoms away but it will certainly lessen them.

Bgum, You hit me with the Aww dude, lol.  Hey, it is what it is.  Haven't we all been in Dire straights before? Super desperate to live but wanting to just die because you can't take it anymore?  I do have great support.  I am lucky in that respect.  I'm about done with doctors.  All they seem to do is let me down and tell me what i'm feeling even though i'm feeling it and not them.  I'll go to a doc if I break my leg, maybe:)

Yea, it's for sure a time game.  I know it takes awhile and I think people are right when the detox gets worse over time.  When I was in my early 20's I could kick a Methadone habit in a couple weeks.  Now, It takes me that long just to get the detox in full swing.  I know I'm better though.  If I compare back a couple weeks ago to where I am now I realize how far iv'e come.  I seem to always bottom out on methadone and Benzoe's.  I guess thats a comfortable place for my addiction to sit until it becomes completely unmanageable.  It's nice to be able to smile and laugh again.  The doctor up at the treatment center said "I don't know why someone would chose to detox from methadone more than once".  I wanted to say because i'm an addict and thats my last stop before prison or death and sometimes I bypass m=done and go straight to jail.  It's sure good not having to use today.  I hope I can make it to a year this time.  I had two and a half years while incarcerated and I think that was the best thing for me at the time.  I was reckless out there and being inside, I got clean and healthy.  I was running a few miles a day, lifting weights, but not working on recovery and I let my guard down thinking I could use again.  Within two weeks I was using heroin daily and soon back to methadone for this long run.

My Dad lived in Sandpoint for a couple years.  He liked how remote it was but not the tons of snow he got before thanksgiving came, lol.  It's sure beautiful there though.  Last night i went outside and looked up at the stars.  I couldn't remember the last time I even paid them notice.  It's good to be back to me and feel again.  Life is good today.

Aww dude, I just read your thread. I'm really sorry, for what you're going through! You can do it! If I can get clean and sober, you can get clean and sober. However, you took a lot of pills... Than, "cold turkey" crazy!!! Hahah! Do you have any support? Friends/family that can help you? Maybe, a new doc or ur doctor can help u too?!? If you need someone to talk to, you can always vent/confide to me. Bless you!

Hi..I am in Sandpoint..Haha Anyway I wanted to tell you that I came off the dones and I was snorting it with illegal adderral..OCH! I took the Klons at night to come down..Dumb I know now..Anyway my detox did take a long time of many stages but I usually do not say on here. I talked to the Dr and the Pharmacist and they said it was because of the Klons mostly. I had no clue how dangerous it was to c/t from a benzo until I got on here. You would of thought the Dr in the treatment would of known better..I had to drive to Palms Springs because of my high dose on dones ( in California)..they tried to put me on Subs. Well I kind of did this for 4 days and very wrong. So my point is that the Klons are one of the worst w/ds and that does cause High Anxiety and such. I did finally did take the Clonidine after 22 days of pure h*ll. I could only take it at night. Then I would take the Buspar (nonaddictive anxiety med) during the day..That one was like a sugar pill. You have to remember that when we do different drugs at once they hit different areas of the Brain..This takes that much longer to balance out.
Just hang tight and it will soon balance all back..It is just that darn Time word we hate on here and with Time comes Patience..I am still working on this. Stick around!!!
Bless

I've read that you can have withdrawal symptoms from the clonidine but I guess if I'm currently taking it-it shouldn't be the clonidine.  I tell you guys what, after reading about some clonidine withdrawl I am scared.  I guess you don't sneeze 6 times in a row coming off clonidine, I don't know?  I know methadone and I know it can be a roller coaster.  I feel good, then bad, then good, then bad again.  I guess I didn't mention that my last dose of methadone was 3600 Mgs.  I tried to hang it up.  I couldn't go through another detox and I couldn't keep moving forward.  I lost my lady, apartment, and Job, multiple run ins with police so I said f**k it and downed all my pills and about 20 xanax and the same klonapin.  I was found 12 hours later still alive for some reason-thank God.  Now the hope is bursting  cuz I truly feel done inside of me and thats a good feeling.  So I guess taking a months supply might stick around for awhile.  So I guess I went from 3600-0 CT.  Wow, did I really do that.  whats funny is I was on Narcan for 5 days and day 6 the doctor said I was done.  That blows my mind.  When they took me off the narcan drip I felt high as ever-5 days later.  So I guess logically speaking it probably still is the m-done and the benzy's.

Cold turkey from 120 mgs of methadone and 2 mgs of klonopin 42 days ago is what the detox, withdrawal symptoms you are experiencing are from.
Both of those drugs should be tapering very slow over many months

Look at the bottom right side of this page for the health pages, the Thomas recipe and the amino acid protocol. Drink protein shakes or ensure, boost.
Exercise as much as possible. Diet with lots of fruits, veggies, protein.
Lots of fluids.
Each detox gets harder and harder. Please get some counseling and attend support groups to help prevent relapse.
Keep moving forward you are doing great. Congrats on 42 days
Clean.

Considering you came of the methadone CT and the klonopin, I would think those are the cause of the withdrawals and not the Clonidine.  I've been given Clonidine as a med for nerve pain.  When I was coming of my meds, I didn't feel the Clonidine did anything for me, but maybe that's because I had already been on it for quite some time for a different reason.

I get so discouraged when I hear about doctors who just don't do their jobs.  Whether it's in a case like yours where they put you on methadone and then abandon you or like mine, where after 9 surgeries, my surgeon just dumped me into pain management ... and I didn't have a clue.  Despite asking at every visit about addiction, dependence, tolerance, etc, I was always told if you have "real pain" you won't become addicted.  Big surprise when I went into withdrawal because my prescriptions were late in the mail.

These doctors somehow need to be held accountable.  How they can just cut someone off something like methadone is just wrong.

I guess it's been about 45 days or so since i've been off the methadone.  I was taking 120mg a day and I was taking 2mg of klonapin a day with the m-done.  I've done this detox a few times before, usually after going to jail but I dont remember it being like this at this stage.  I'm still only getting an hour, maybe two of sleep if i'm lucky.  The clonidine seems to only help for a few hours.  At this stage the clonidine shouldn't even be needed.  I've never used clonidine this long so i'm a little confused, not sure how to take this.  Vic, glad to hear you got yourself a year.  It's a beast getting through the methadone.  I hate it and i'm done.  Here in MT as im sure up there around Troy and Sand Point Doc's will throw methadone out like crazy then cut you off when your abusing it and Bam-no help.  The doc at the hospital told me I was done my detox after six days.  I told him I hadn't even got started.  He said "well, you might still have minor problems but your mostly finished"  It's amazing how ignorant these doc's can be when there prescribing the stuff.  I'm from Maryland originally and the doctors there know how to handle an opiate problem, especially methadone.  It was a rude awakening getting off the done here in Montana.  Thanks for responding to this.

My understanding of Clonidine was that it could cause rebound hypertension but not actual withdrawal symptoms like you get with pills or methadone or anything like that.  Were you on anything else other than the Clonidine?

Vic- I think he has been off for 40 days.
How long were you on methadone and what was your highest dose?
How long was your taper?
At what dose of dones did you stop?
Did you taper all the way to 0?

Hi and Welcome..You are my Neighbor..I live in Idaho right at the top. I have a Year clean today off of Methadone I was using for 12years..I also came off of 2 other meds with this. Now You only had 29 days in?? How long did they give you the clonidine?? From my experience I would say you are still detoxing from the Methadone..I did not even go into bad w/ds for at least 7 days later. Methadone does not like to let go. For me it was a whole other detox then just off the other opiates..So How many days off of the Dones so far???
