Help for after cessation

I am finally on my own road to recovery.  I have found the courage to admit my defeat to my doctor.  I have been addicted to oxycontin for 2 years.  I am currently take 220 mg/day.  My doctor is helping wean off by decreasing 20mg /week until I am taking 5mg for a week and then I will go through the withdrawals with the help of clonazepam.  I am really looking forward to a life drug free.  I know that I can do this.  I have to be patient and stick to the doctor's regimen.  I'm worried though that I won't know what to do with myself.  How do deal with the psychological stress of no longer taking drugs.  I don't want to be tempted into going back on drugs.  I wish I knew of ways to keep my mind clear and drug free.

Welcome..big first step, tell your doctor, WAY TO GO!!!  Are you positive that you can control your own taper taper??  I know that i could not, if i had them i took them...you can't lose your doctor's trust...For me i , see a addiction spec., I have to say that i am not sure that anyone can make it without some kind of aftercare...But the aftercare you choose, is what is best for you...for me withdrawlas were not good, but stayiing off was harder...I feel so much better, look much better, out of the fog..I spend more time with my kids and family, and try to stay busy!!  YOU can do this...we are here if you need to talk, vent..

so glad you've made the decision to quit!! :) I just recently quit taking 80-150 mgs of hydro a day. Life is much better now! As far as what to do about keeping your mind clear, have you thought about aftercare? meeting, maybe NA or some go to AA, I know its not for everyone. I 'relapsed' and took 2 pills on day 33 for me, I was in a lot of pain, but I also felt like that meant it was time for a meeting for me! I wish you the best, congrats on your decision!! :)

Hi Mander------ I predict you will beat this demon ----  My reason is that I see you doing the right things ---- Telling your doctor and getting her help -----  That is absolutely vital for anyone who is serious about quitting ------  You just cannot leave the door open and think "well, just in case I change my mind, I can go get more" ------.  Yes, you will have some rough times but you will make it -- and you will feel so good about yourself and you will also find a new you has returned.   I was one who was so afraid of the W/D process that I made the huge mistake of going on Sub -----  Had I only known what it would do to me I would have tapered like you are going to do.  I hope you have some help with someone to help you by dispensing your dose ---- it is just so hard to do it alone.  I wish you well.  All the best.
