Here goes nothing...

Okay LeapYearGuy, ya talked me into sharing my story, lol.
My story starts off like many others, started taking pain medication for pain, and eventually I crossed the line. Tramadol was my doc. In the beginning, I took them exactly as prescribed.  But, I loved the way they made me feel, and I loved all the energy they gave me, so one day I took an extra pill, and that's how it all started for me.

Within a few months I was taking at least 10 per day.  Shortly after that, I discovered you could order them off the internet, huge mistake! The access was just way too easy, I was soon taking around 30 pills per day, after I maxed out about 8 credit cards, I started stealing pills from my dad (very embarrassed about that). Like a dummy, I got more credit cards, and continued to steal pills from my dad.  By now, I was up to around 60 pills per day. My dad finally caught on to his "missing" pills, so he did the right thing and bought a lockbox. BUT, what did I do?? I found the lockbox (and a hammer).  My dad confronted me, he wasn't angry, just very disappointed. He tried to put me on a taper, but I just wasn't strong enough to do that.  By this time, I was financially ruined, doctor wouldn't prescribe any more, and my dad must've found a really good hiding spot for his pills, lol. I had 60 one day, and zero the next. I knew I was in for a battle!

I knew this was a longtime coming, but still I wasn't ready, but I had no choice. So I sucked it up and went thru 30 days of wds. The mental wds were rough, I didn't really start feeling like myself again for close to a year.

I'm still around 6 1/2 years clean, I kept a journal during the first 30 days or so of my wd. I read it from time to time. I never want to go back to that place, ever.  So anyways, that's a little bit of my story, nothing too exciting, lol.  Y'all have a great day!

Take care~
Sherry

Yes, I would too! We get so many that we forget what they have come off of and how much time behind them now. I think sharing ones story once a week or once a month on here would be a good one. Lets talk with others about this. Maybe we could have DS pick one each month or week.

Good Job Sherry!

I attend meetings every week at a local church. I live in a small town, and so far it's the only meeting available here. Hopefully that'll change soon. I love seeing life thru clear eyes. Even after six years, there are days when I still struggle. But thru the meetings, I've discovered many other ways to handle my triggers and to not run to that little pill to make all of life's stresses "disappear". I can honestly say, I've never been happier! Thank you guys!
