feelin alone in recovery

I enjoy goin to counseling and NA but is anywhere else I can go to talk with other addicts. No offense but where I go to group 90 percent of the ppl who show up are court ordered or are forced to go thus makes for boring groups I'm very outgoing and love to meet new ppl,but seem to come off as an ******* because I go to extra groups etc. I want to talk to other like minded ppl who actualy care and wanna get better.I try to explain I put 100 percent into my recovery because I wanna get the most out of it.that just seems to annoy ppl? Wtf? Thank goodness I have a counsler who cares and gives me worksheets so I can grow. Any other suggestions?

It's so great to have you posting on the forum!  And I'm really glad you opened up and talked to us about how you're feeling.  I have a particular meeting I have gone to where I felt the exact same way you expressed.
I'm not sure where you live....but I'd spread your wings and check out some more meetings.  Even if you cannot find an NA meeting, you can check Celebrate Recovery like ABN suggested or an AA meeting.  I find All Women's Meetings are a blessing to me....and different times of day affect the crowd as well.  If 90% of the people at the meeting you attend are court ordered.....I can understand the attitudes maybe being less than serious about working a program.  Please don't limit yourself....you sound like you are digging in and because of your great attitude....you will find what you are looking for.....just keep seeking.....and let us know how you are doing.

Check out a Celebrate Recovery meeting. Its a 12 step based meeting that people take very seriously. I like them a lot because the break you into groups of sex. Males with males and females with females. I used to go to "other" type meetings but I got tired of the same thing you mentioned AND all the people trying to hook up. I'm trying to find recovery not a date.

Yes! Keep communicating on this forum. This forum has a true atmosphere of recovery going. People get to know one another. It's a one of a kind community.

As for the sheet signing... I've found an AA meeting Monday and Thursday nights, not one sheet! I've been going to meetings since 1982. Rarely any sheets back then, but now they're prevalent. Some are interested in the program and some aren't, but we go for us, not them. It's a selfish program! Usually meetings that have discussion tables, not open talks, are the meetings you'll find the most members who go to stay sober and clean; at least around here in the Detroit area. Keep going, the right group will find you, you won't find it. ;-)

Good morning and great work on your recovery! I agree that the dynamics change from meeting to meeting.  Keep trying new ones until you find a good fit. As far as people to talk to who are serious about recovery ...well you're already here.  MH is a treasure trove of support and advice. Keep posting!

Kudos to you for taking your recovery so seriously. You are doing awesome.
Keep up the good work.
Have you tried other meetings? The dynamics can be so different at each
Group you attend.
Do you go to church? If so you can attend women's groups, bible studies.
Also there is celebrate recovery and overcomers outreach both recovery groups.
Have you read any books about addiction and recovery?
That could also be of help.
Keep talking to us here. There is always someone around.
Sending healing,
Debbie
