Oxycodone tapering / weaning process

Hello...I am two months out of major back surgery (L4-L5 fusion). Was taking large amounts of Oxycotin and Oxycodone at first. I am trying to taper on my own plan since the Doctor really does not have a plan. Last week I was on 20mg Oxycotin in the AM and 5mg Oxycodone 12 hours later in the PM. I have just dropped to a 10mg Oxycotin in the AM and 10mg Oxycodone 12 hours later in the PM. I do use an occassional supplement (10mg) for pain flair ups. I will continue this process untill this Saturday. I can definitely feel the discomfort....I basically don't have any energy or will to do anything. I am definitely physically dependent on what most would say are very low amounts. I have put in a call to my Doctor and asked for a supply of 5mg oxycodone so I can maybe drop to 3 per day and then 2 a day then 1 and you can even cut the oxycodone in half.

I am an Alcoholic in recovery and I am scared to death of doing something stupid to ruin my 4+ years of real sobriety.

Any suggestions or better methods than the one I have come up with??? I am worried I am impatient and doing it to fast if I feel the effects of withdrawal.

Thanks

Oh, yea I also had a Pulmanary Embolism after my surgery an I am currently on Coumadin therapy. All of those diets proposed would have to be approved by my physian treating my PE first. For now I will continue to taper the drugs but will probably bite the bullet in a week or so......my spirit has been broken by these medications and I hate them as they make me not me.....at least the sober me the day I went to surgery.

Agree......tapering at this point is going to just string it out longer than you really have to.  I would definitely bite the bullet.  It will be over quicker, and you will feel better sooner.  Go to the health pages and look at Amino Acid Protocol.  Also, Thomas Recipe.  Follow those, and it will help you.  Also, take lots of hot showers and baths.

Good luck!!!  You can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : D

At the dose your at, I doubt doing a taper is going to do you alot of good over just quitting outright..Down dose if you like, but all that will do is have a tendency to keep you in an aggrevated state until you stop taking it..If it were me in your position, I would finish what I had and walk away..Read up on vitamin recommendations in the right hand column, make sure to get some immodium in the event you have stomach problems, and accept that your going to not feel very well for a couple of weeks with flu like symptoms the first 4 days then continuing low energy and sleep issues until things stabilize inbetween two to three weeks from now..
