Hydrocodone While Pregnant?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could answer this to me,

Ive been addicited to hydrocodone (Perks mostly and oxys) for a couple years now, it never was so bad until after I had my first son, and was taking some for pain, During my sons pregnancy I was only taking about 5mgs a day everyday for the first like 6 months and then stopped, And he was born completly healthy, But since hes been born ive been doing a prescription of 40 perks in a couple days, Im currently pregnant with my second baby, Im 9 weeks pregnant, Im honestly scared for my babies health, Is taking that much perks gonna harm my baby? is he gonna be born addicited? If I can stop will it harm it?
I was prescribed methadone before I was pregnant with my first child and never went for it, So im scared to talk to any doctors about this, (As Im not prescribed to it..)

And how much do you have to take for a baby to be born addicted, thats probably my biggest fear of having my children taken away from me..

The amount you are taking can harm you and your baby. Also coming off of them should be monitored.  At that amount if you do not stop your baby will definitly go thru withdrawals and can be taken away from you. Look this is a bad situation all around and you need to be honest with your dr and get help for you and your baby. If you continue taking like this your baby will be sick and more than likely taken away from you.  Give your baby the best chance possible and be the best mom possible and get help. I wish you the best of luck.

I had the same problem almost a year ago when I got pregnant with my first child while on Oxycontin and Percocet for breakthrough pain ( I have back problems). The first OB I went to was a major jerk and judged me for having to take this medicine to function. He advised me to get off the Oxycontin and I did without any issues. He agreed that Percocet is a Class B medicine and is a less harmful drug than Hydrocodone. He agreed to prescribe me the Percocet 5mg. during the first few months of pregancy but warned me that when we get closer to the due date, I would have to get off or my baby would have terrible withdrawals. (All the while he and his staff made me feel terrible for taking these meds). I finally got fed up and at 28 weeks I switched to another OB. He was a Godsent! He understood my pain and did not judge me at all. He took me off the percs and onto Tylenol #3 (40 per month). He advised that a low dosage would be fine even up to delivery day. Even with that said, two weeks before my scheduled C-Section, I decided myself that I wanted to stop taking the pain meds to give my daughter the best chance of not having withdrawals. To my delight, my daughter was born absolutely perfect with no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever!

I do think you should try to cut down on the amount you are taking now. Do you have pain reasons for taking the meds? I know it's hard, but you have another life to think about and you need to give him or her the best chance at a healthy delivery. I hope this helped. Good luck and keep us posted!

I know this must be an awful situation but you've got do what's best for you and your baby. Your doctor won't do anything to hurt you unless you are putting your childten at risk. You want help. It shows in your obvoius desire to reach out to people who can help you. If you don't trust your ob, you should think about changing now, early on in your pregnancy. A good doc will help you wean off the drugs and will always help you do what is best for both you and your baby. I wish you all the luck in the world. Please keep us in mind when you are struggling through this bc this is a really tough thing to go through. I have found this forum to be amazing through my battle with addiction.

4 of my close friends have all given birth in the last 2-4 months. Most of them took Tylenol-3. Do not take Ibuprofen. Some were also prescribed hydros but at a very low dose. Tylenol-3 made me sicker than a dog. Honestly I have seen a couple of pregnant women struggle with this but they all were responsible about taking no more than prescribed which is why YOU HAVE to see a doctor. A new doctor would probably be the best. Just to give you a little peace of mind all of their babies were born healthy w no wds. Good luck to you and your little one. Sometimes the risk of mom being in pain is worse than taking the pills to an unborn baby. Just limit them until u see a doc!!! first trimester is a little more critical bcuz of development of all major organs and systems of the body.

Hey, I feel for you. I am now 34wks pregnant & have been on methadone for pain, all the while being told by baby doc to stay on it even tho I had reservations. TALK to ur O.B. They will help you! Thank goodness I have had a wonderful support team with my doctors. Up until now, I have done ok. I just wish they would have helped me get off sooner!! Good luck!! But please, be honest with your doctor!

My Dr. prescribed me about a months worth of Perks when I got in a car accident during my pregnancy. He said there is usually no cause for concern unless it's later in your pregnancy and there is risk for the baby withdrawing. If you are clean now, just stay clean & you should be fine. BTW my son is now 2 1/2 & he's never had any problems whatsoever :)
