Hydrocodone addiction

First I just want to say I think you are all wonderful for helping eachother out.
I have never taken any drugs before in my life. I had liposuction almost 2 years ago and had to take hydrocodone (Vicodin) for the pain. After my prescription ran out I was still able to get some of the medication and would take it every so often for the effects. I liked the way it felt. Usually one or two a day for a couple of weeks, then I would stop for a month or two and then back again. This past August I started taking them daily. (about 2 or 3 (10mg each) daily) I started to experience a lot of pain in my neck. I was told that the drug itself could actually cause bone and/or muscle pain. Is that correct? (QUESTION 1) I notice that if I take too much of it I start to get dizzy and lightheaded and an almost disconnected feeling in my eyes and in my head. I have also been taking 75 mg of Effexor daily for the past 3 1/2 yrs (prescribed by my doctor) for depression. I notice that my depression is getting much worse. Scary even. I want to stop taking the hyrocodone. I'm so miserable and I think this is causing it. Can you please tell me the best way to ween off? (QUESTION 2). I've never had a drug problem before and I'm shocked at how fast this even happened and what kind of person it turned me into. Can you please help and answer my questions?

Hey newgirl99, I can answer both of your questions for you with a lot of experience both as an addict and someone who has recieved a lot of medical professional help.
Question #1 Yes
Question #2 Hydrocodone is very addictive.
drugs in many different forms can be very addictive and they do not care if your someone who has never used before, a doctor, a lawyer, a ditch digger. You can be black, white or green.
The one thing common is that an addicts brain works different then the normal person. In my family I had two grandfathers who were both alcoholics. In the many sessions I attended most all addicts have family members before them who were addicts of some capacity. Do you have a Grandparent, mother, father or aunt or uncle who had either a drug or alcohol problem?
I wish you the best.......

I killers for 5 years know. It first started off from Hockey injures and I would get Vicodin/Percocet. It's kind of a double edged sowrd you are supposed to take these pills to deal with pain but the longer you take them for the pain the greater the chance you will get hooked like I did then you find out that you dont even take the pills to deal with the pain you once had but to deal with pain from you not taking the pills. Once my scrips ran out I found other means of getting what I needed from buying them from the common pill pusher. I have gone through rehab and was over a year clean before I fell back into the same old trap. My biggest fear is what happens if at some point in my life I get into a car wreck or something else that would requier me to take pain meds? What do I do then? I am glad that I found this web posting site for people that are going throught the same thing as me. Do any of you have any addvice?

Who wants to go first? I guess I will. We have all tried different methods of quitting.  Colt Turkey, Weaning/tapering and suboxone/subutex. I personally have tried all 3. Can't tell you which works best for you because I'm not you but they all will work. The main thing is suport. We are here for you. Pick a method and give it a try, if it doesn't work try another. You might also try AA/NA. Shop around till you find a group that you like is most important. If you dont like the people you wont get anything from them.
Dizzy light headed disconected sounds like the effexor, It caused this for me when i stopped using it. check with your doctor. depression is what you get after the fun of the pills wears off and your tollerence goes up and yoyu need more to feel good. If you really want off try rht psyc doctor that put you on the effexor, he'll probably help you try ro get off the pills and if he is the one writeing the scripts for them he is probably going to stop. If he does, at least ask can you be put on subuxone to help taper off. It worked last time for me.  Also you might want to try some of the other meds for your depression as effexor can plateau and then quit working. Whatever you do don't give up and good Luck. We aren't doctors here so atleast talk to one
