oxy/heroin withdrawal

I'm only twenty and i've been a heavy opiate user for about three years. I was doing about 80-120mg of oxycontin per day up until recently when I started using Heroin and four months later am smoking .5-1.2g per day. I'm tired of this and I wanna get off both for good but am a full time college student with a part time job and just moved back in with my parents who know absolutely nothing. I have a week now to get clean and only 2 8mg suboxones. What is the best way to do this and draw minimal attention to myself? I can't go through a doctor b/c I don't want my insurance or my parents to find out... it would devestate them... well, not the insurance... But anyway, what can I expect?

Just ride it out and take solace in the fact that it will work for you if you just wait long enough.  A full 24hrs. should be enough time for you as long as you have been snorting your pills or bangin your H.  Give it a shot.  It's better than repeating the cycle of relapse that is so frustrating when we try to go cold turkey to just fail over and over again Nixie.  You mentioned perc's and an 80.  Don't try combining all these things if you decide to do the subs.  It will only make you suffer.  I hope you make it.  You can do it!  ttyl.

Yeah, I'm too much of a wimp to do the mexico thing anyway, especially knowing about all the drug wars raging. Don't worry about mentioning it, not a big deal:) Don't I have to wait like a full 24 hrs before taking some sub? I don't want it to force the dope out fast and make me more sick:(  How's the best way to get through the first 24hrs? I've got some weak percs and an 80oc left just in case, maybe that'll be slightly helpful, who knows.

I'm sorry I mentioned the Mexico thing.  First of all it is a really far drive from phoenix, and secondly it's not the safest place, especially for young girls.  A full-scale drug war is raging and the narcos are fighting in the streets in the border towns, and even though they don't target tourists, stray bullets can fly in every direction.  You will be gobbled up at the gate by "tour guides", no doubt about it.  And it's not cheap.  Please look into a suboxone doctor.  You had a perfect oppurtunity last night when you were dope sick to pop one of the two that you've got to hold you over until you can go and get a script.  It will give you your life back.  Once you're on it you won't feel sick, you will literally just feel normal...not high, not sick, just normal.  Like you, I can't last 24hrs. trying to go c/t.  I'm just to much of a wimp to make it happen.

Phoenix. ASU. Wish I'd thought of driving to score, city **** is so f''n expensive!!! ...So day one didn't go so well, relapsed already:( Made it through eight hours of sick then scored another bag. I guess tomorrow will be day one... the second. Wish me luck! How do I get over the oral fixation? The need to smoke or sniff something?

yes, seize it you shall :)  Where in Arizona are you UA or ASU?  I lived in Tucson and Ft. Huachuca for awhile and used to drive down to Nogales twice a week to score my oxy's.  God I've got some crazy memories of Mexico.  I love it out west.

Yeah, ideally you'd want to do it for a month or so, at low doses, then come off it as soon as possible.  But I'm starting to doubt my ability to stay clean after such a short period on the subs because of my history of chronic relapsing, so maybe for me it might make sense to stay on it a little longer.  If you went the doctor route for them don't mention it to your family doctor!  You have to find a doctor that is liscensed in suboxone, and like one of the other members above said there doesn't need to be any mention of insurance to anyone at anytime.

I have gone cold turkey while I was in the middle of a school semester about two years back and I was barely able to walk to the bathroom let alone do any schoolwork.  If you have your spring break coming up that would be the best time to do it if you think c/t would be best for you.

Thanks. I have researched it, I don't want to go on it as a maintenence program, just a really fast taper down... if possible. I just want the WDs to be easier than CT.  I won't be on it long enough to become dependent upon it if all goes well. I'm really worried about the months after too... but for now my immediate concern is this next week. Last of it was this morning so we'll see how I hold up.

Hi Nixie,
I am certainly not an expert in this area, but from what I understand sub is really hard to get off of as well. do yourself a favor and research the w/d from that, if you havent already. Maybe just going CT and toughing it out for a week or so may be a better option; then you're done and wont be hooked on soemthing else.
Either way I wish you all the best. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders and a lot to offer!

Also, I don't want it in my medical history because I don't want the whole pre-existing condition thing to stop me from getting my own insurance in a year... I already have asthma, this is a stkike against me that I can't afford. And I worry it could keep me from becoming a rehabilitation therapist/ doctor. Is there a way to get around this?

I'm still covered under my father's insurance. He would read it in his bills. I study pharmacology, psychology, and addiction in school so hopefully that'll keep me from misusing the subs... I know it's not much compared to a doctor but I don't have many options and I'm very careful to fully research anything before I do it. Does anyone know the price of a doc and 1 scrip of subs without insurance? I'm flat broke at the moment... addict's wallet... but next month I might be able to afford a doc over dope.

You don't have to mention to anyone that you have insurance. Not the Dr or the pharmacy. Although depending upon how much money you have, subs can be expensive, and you could use the insurance to pay for the subs at the pharmacy, but just pay cash at the Dr.  I would imagine that because of your age, the HIPPA laws definitely come into play, meaning your Dr. wouldn't be allowed to share your medical history with your parents without your permission, regardless of whether or not you are on rhe insurance or not. As for the pharmacy, I can't imagine any reason whatsoever they would EVER be able to share your prescription history with your parents. However, I do receive a script count in the mail each month that tells what I got and on what day, but I'm assuming it's only due to it being Government regulated insurance, because my hubby is military. It's addressed to ke only, and also could be that I get them filled through a service that delivers them to me. Otherwise, I've never heard of any pharmacy contacting a family member about someone elses scripts. I'm fairly certain it would be againt the law, especially the HIPPA laws. You could probably even use the insurance to pay the Dr. considering he takes insurance. You don't have to use the same family Dr. you and your parents use either. You are old enough to find your own. I do realize there are other ways to quit, such as cold turkey, and definitely some aftercare of some sort. You seem to be leaning toward the sub route, or your situation seems to be the sub route, so the reason for my suggestions is simply because if you are going to use subs, then please do so through a dr. and with his/her help. There is a lot you need to know prior to dosing yourself up on subs without speaking to a medical professional first. I'm sure if you check back thru the day, others will have more/different, and possibly better advice, but I hope this helps some for now.

Eh... Well, I'm in the honors college and stuff, but, I'm not exactly the most dedicated student. I should be graduating a semester early next December but have no idea what I wanna do from there. Oxy made it easier to sit through boring classes but H pretty much made me not go all that often. Yeah, I imagine school will go better once i'm off... but i'm a little worried I won't be able to focus on it at all. Not sure. Parents can never know. They have friends whose kid is a meth addict and talk about how terrible/ dissappointing that'd be... I'm almost 21, attend one of the top party schools in the country, and they honestly think I've never even had a drink! The saddest thing is that it's not like with those parents who have an inkling and just really don't want to know, they honestly are cluless...well, my dad might be able to read the signs a bit more clearly, he thinks something is off... not sure. I'm hurting them enough by doing the stuff if they knew about it, it would kill them! They really pretty much have zero idea about my real life. A sub dr. would show up on insurance right? How many subs will I need to do a fast detox? I'll try and hunt them down on the blkmkt if all else fails:(

Nix, I can't speak for herion, but I was hooked on Oxycodone and Somas for over 3 years. 120-180 MG of Oxys and 2-3 somas a night..I was honest with my Doctor, he prescribed me Diazpam 10mg for aniexty and w/d. You might try and get some clondine for sleep. The first 3-4 days suck with flu like symtons, You may sneeze alot Yawn alot, have the runs and lack of sleep. By day 5 you will be feeling better..but thats when the mental demons and depression may set in. I was never in any pain, just did it to get the High!  My Doc also said most people who use opiates are depressed.  He started me on Celexa and takes up to 2-3 weeks to starting working.
I am 71 days clean and have never felt better! It's better to be honest with everyone including your parents. As far as suboxone goes its very expensive, and is harder to get off that just going cold turkey. What I did to help is write a goodbye letter to my drugs, so when I craved I pull it out and read it outloud to myself.  YOU have to want to quit, and you can!  If Mr. Addictive Personailty can do it..So can you  Good Luck and Keep Posting!

Hey you should look into a suboxone certified doctor.  It's a little pricey but not nearly as bad as what we spend on our doc's.  Those 2 subs you have are not gonna hold you and if you're going to take them, this fact cannot be stressed enough:  wait until you are in withdrawal before you put them under your tongue.  I have made the mistake of taking them too early a couple of times.  If you take them before you are in withdrawal you will immediately send yourself into withdrawal, and the pain is much worse then before you took em trust me.  If you're like me suboxone seems to be the only answer.  We are drug addicts and it so hard to quit using opiates.  Opiates have a higher relapse rate than any other drug.   I can barely bring myself to get on them, let alone cold turkey or tapering.  I would look into a sub doctor asap if I were you.  Your parents don't have to know, even though it's probably a good thing to come clean with them.  I'm sure they suspect something and they would probably appreciate your honesty.  I'm a college student to and my grades - well in calculus anyway - are suffering because of my drug use.  It's just too big of a distraction to be an opiate addict and successful in school or a challenging career at the same time.  How is school going?  Just think of how much better your grades would be if you weren't chasing dope around all day.  Stay strong Nixie.
