worried

I just got a call from my dad said he's in terrible pain from toothache.  And that about 2hrs ago took 3 tylenols.  And said it didn't help then took 3 more about 1hr apart. Is this dangerous. What should I do?

Ibuprofen is actually better for toothache pain. My dentist recommends 600 mgs (3 of the 200 mg tablets) every 6 hrs. The liquid gels work more quickly so they're worth the extra couple bucks to me. Hopefully that will help get him through the weekend until he can see a dentist. Toothaches are awful; I hope he feels better soon!

I find codeine's much more effective for dealing with toothaches, most dentists have emergency service / someone on call, to deal with the source of the discomfort and/or issue a pain med prescription (or antibiotic if appropriate) by phone if need be.

I'd assume and hope those were regular tylenol.  So, that's ( 3 + 3 ) x 325 mg = 1,950 mg.  (if they were extra strength tylenol, it would be 3,000 mg)

Tylenol.com's recently reduced their daily maximum intake recommendation from 4,000 mg to 3,000 mg.

1,950 mg doesn't sound majorly worrisome as a one-time dose, but if medical advice is handy it's certainly worth a call.

That's a lot of acetaminophen for the ol' liver. If I were you I'd either call his dr or dentist, or you could even call your local hospital and ask to speak to an er nurse. I'm sure he'll be okay, but I'd call just to make sure. Take care...
