Hi all -
Like an idiot, I came across some irresistible opiates and tried quiting my Sub (16 mgs/day) to get high. After 8 days, I still couldn't feel anything from the opiates. And was feeling miserable. I thought it only took a day or two to get the Sub to stop blocking the opiate receptors! So, I basically made myself miserable for a week in order to get high and never even got it! I finally went back on Sub today (after a hellish sleepless night) and I feel much better. Plus, I have no business getting back into using....I almost lost my life due to benzo/alcohol abuse a few yrs ago. My question is: If my brain/receptors are hungry for Sub and I feel much better after taking the Sub, why don't the opiates have any effect? I thought withdrawal was withdrawal. I guess this is good news, because it will prob. keep me from looking for pills again - they don't do anything for me, even after a week of being of Sub. As I've read some of the postings here, I realized that one must taper off the Sub, not just quit - I hope I didn't totally f&%* up my brain by doing this! Being an addict *****, and it takes so much damn work! to stay sober OR to get high! I'm glad I found this forum. Thanks everybody. Any replies are welcome.
well I say its a good think he didn't quit Suboxone cold turkey. From what I have read its brutal. He needs a taper plan. If you click on my screen name to left of this post it will take you to my journal in my profile, there is a long article about Suboxone and there is even a taper plan in there. Leave me a message here if you have any questions.
