beating xanax back

been taking xanax for sleep for 2 yrs. now find i need to take it during the day to fight back feelings of withdrawal, been told this is nomal, dizziness, nausea, headaches, fatigue. started taking .25mg went to .5 after arm injury, now it seems i need to increase to avoid staying up all night.
through reading more about this (seemingly poisonous) drug getting off is impossible on my own, i've never had such regret in my life than getting (what i believe) addicted to this miserable substance . i now take .25mg at 4 intervals during the day or i feel very uncomfortable.      someone please help if you've had some experience with this, i never thought this could happen to me,i was on percocet for a year and a half after a spinal fusion and just stopped on my own

i appreciate all encouragement, .25 2 times daily to 4 times daily seems like so little compared to others, i would like to nip it in the bud before i have to go higher to function, it's the worst feeling in the world, i'd rather stay up all night counting sheep, good luck to you as well, i'm really glad i found this site

Hey there,
First of all, you have to know that you're at the right place. There are lots of wonderful people here ready to help you.
I agree completely w/ steveo. Taper down VERY slowly from benzos and switch to valium is gonna help you thru the w/d's 'cuz valium has a much longer half life than xanax.
I assume that if you take them for 2 years, you get them under prescription. In that case talk to your dr. What happens to you is completely normal. your body is getting used to a certain dose of xanax , than you got to take more for you to feel the meds kicking in again and so on.
I took very heavy doses of benzos for 9 years. I was up to 200mg of oxazepam and 40mg of tranxene a day. Since may 1st, I'm tapering down. I'm currently on 40mg of oxa and 15mg of tranxene and had a set back last month.
So, I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you that it's a walk in the park but if I could do it so far, You sure can do this too. keep us informed if you need any more info.
hang in there.

doctors script but i increased on my own to alleviate side affects, foolishly tried to stop on my own and got totally slammed by side effects it scared the s*** out of me.
i thought it would be no problem because i was on halcion from 1988-98 after a bad car accident unable to sleep well and never really liked the pain meds, i figured they were pretty much the same drug and didn't have any problems ever with the halcion, now this stuff makes me anxious being on it and definitly trying to stop. i also read valium to get off symptoms,i'll be seeing the Dr. very soon, is not the help i thought when i started taking them, turning into nightmare.

always appreciate feedback and encouragement from all. thank you

are you seeing a doctor or getting them off the streets.if you have a doctor just let him know whsts happening.if not then i would recommend maybe switching to valium,it's not quite as strong and helps better with sleep.now if your goal is to get off of these devilish pills i would either taper down the valium or the xanax very slow,i mean very slow and if your still uncomfortable then try and get a script of librium and that will really help with the anxiety
