MS CONTIN ADDICTION

I am currently taking MS Contin due to severe abdominal pains for past 3 years 180mg start of day, 150mg afternoon and 180mg before bed.
I have had the surgery to correct this condition and no longer have that particular pain but have become addicted to the Morphine. So far in life with the help of NA or AA I have managed to get off of Cocaine, meth, and am struggling with alcohol but no booze for 3 months. Concerning the Morphine the Drs want too slowly ween me off, which takes around 18-20 weeks but with my past history I think I would find a street substitute like heroin, what I'm trying to do is have them do a quick Medical Detox that takes about 4-5 days of an in-patient stay to fix the physical aspect of my addiction, and then go to NA or AA meetings to deal with the mental aspect of my addiction. Has or is anyone going through the samething

Hey Bob,Ihave been on ms contin for several months only 30mg a day but wow you are on a bunch.I didn't realize how bad this stuff was until I tried to get a different job with way less physical stress on my fused back the hiring company thru up some red flags so I started checking but anyway,I told my Dr.I wanted off the stuff I have just started today cut my mg in half for 5days and I have to take loritab for 5days 1 pill a day after the contin they told me if I didn"t slowly get off of it I would get really sick and could have seizures they strongly advised me to follow a 10 day detox you are taking such a big dose I would have to agree with your Dr.or you will have to stay in hospital to get cleaned out.

Hi Bob and welcome.  Oh boy.  That sounds like a lot of morphine and for a substantial amount of time.  I commend you for wanting to get off the meds.  Maybe not so much of a rush - considering your intake, perhaps a more agressive ween or taper would be better - shorter than 18-20 weeks, but not 4-5 days.. Im not sure but want to offer support.  Hopefully someone will come along with more helpful advice.  I do think that if your want is there all things are possible.  Overcoming cocaine and meth are two huge accomplishments in their own right.  Best of luck and keep us posted.
